Dimentio's head rung.
That's all. Everything was dark, and his head rung, like a siren going off in the distance, sounds muffled by something. Water? Glass? He wasn't sure, but something was making the sound fee distant and muddy.
He couldn't quite remember what had just happened. Or how he got here, for that matter. He didn't even know where 'here' was. He didn't want to open his eyes and see, in fear that he wouldn't like it. For some reason the thought of not knowing made him feel safer than opening his eyes and possibly being disappointed.
He wasn't already dead yet, right? It didn't happen already, did it? He didn't even feel it, so it couldn't have happened!
"Di.....o...." A voice called, muffled in the distance, just like the ringing.
No, the voice WAS the ringing.
He paused, perplexed and confused as to where the voice was coming from. But still, he wasn't ready to open his eyes. He was tired. Sleep was good. Sleep was safe. Could he go back to that?
He wished he was back in the cabin, surrounded by blankets in front of the safe, small fire.
"Dimentio...." The voice repeated, closer now. Clearer now.
The words almost hurt, like a white noise he wanted to stop. He didn't feel so good.
"DIMENTIO!" It shouted, right next to him.
"WHAT?!" He responded, opening his eyes feeling somewhat angry, but it was immediately replaced with confusion as he sat up and looked around at his surroundings.
There was nothing but pure white for miles. No one was next to him. He was alone.
"Huh?" He murmured, standing up and turning around himself. He looked at himself to see that the cloak Luigi had given him was gone and replaced with his old, multicolored outfit. He slowly brought his hand to his face to feel the mask on, not a single crack on it now.
"Why won't you fight?" Suddenly came the voice from behind him.
Dimentio immediately turned around himself to see someone standing where the voice came from. And there, someone was standing. Someone standing in the place no one was just a moment ago. Standing clear as day, as if they were there the whole time.
It was... Luigi? But it wasn't Luigi. Well, it was, but the other version of him. His darker side. His more confident side.
"Why won't you fight?" Mr. L repeated.
"W...what...?" Dimentio asked, looking around himself. "What is happening? Have they already killed me?!"
"I don't know," Mr. L admitted. "Why won't you fight, Dimentio."
"What do you mean you don't know?!" Dimentio questioned, looking back at him.
"You ask me too many questions," Mr. L chuckled. "So just answer me this one. Why won't you fight?"
"I..." Dimentio started, looking around. "Is this the remains of Sammer's Kingdom?!"
"Dimentio..."
"It really does resemble it. How could I forget the place? This is where I betrayed you-"
"Dimentio."
"Is that what's happening? Am I getting what I deserve-"
"DIO!" He shouted, grabbing the Jester's shoulders, making Dimentio tense up and stop talking.
