Third time's the charm*
I held my head and fell to my knees as tears rolled down my cheeks.
"No! It can't end like this." I got up and ran around the bridge, looking for someone. Anyone.
"Toby! Claire! Aja! Douxie! Anyone?!"
Silence followed my desperate yelling.
"James Lake Jr." I heard from behind me.
"Merlin?" I asked, turning a full 180 degrees.
The green, levitating ball of fire that stood in front of me nodded.
"You are being offered another chance. On one condition,"
"Anything!"
"One person must remain dead."
I fell to the floor as the ball of fire lowered itself to me. I dreaded his next sentence as the fire changed colors. It was now blue. The same as Daylight.
"Not to worry. I have decided for you."
"Who?! If it's Toby, Claire, or any of the others, I'll stay back!"
"Calm down, Trollhunter. I will stay back in your place."
"You..?"
Is this Merlin, or some other person? The Merlin I knew, was never this selfless in any sort of way.
"Merlin... What will I tell Douxie? Or the others- or-"
"They will not remember these recent events. Or dare I say, the past."
I gave him a small chuckle but it quickly turned into a sad smile.
"I ask only two things of you."
"What is it?"
"Don't mess up." He said, his voice changing into a sarcastic and serious tone.
"Ha. I'll try."
"While you're at it, tell Hisirdoux he... he was like a son to me and that I'll never forget him."
"I will." I promised.
"Then go on. What are you still standing here for?"
A portal opened up in the museum's large stone doorway. I glanced at it hesitantly, then back at Merlin.
"Thank you, Merlin. It's been an honor."
"The honor was mine, Trollhunter."
That was the last conversation Merlin and I had.
Monday, 6:00 AM, 2016:
I groggily opened my eyes and they were soon filled with childish glee as I looked around my room. I hopped off my bed and threw my arms up, taking in the beautiful feeling.
"I'm back."
3rd person Pov:
Jim quickly rushed downstairs and prepared breakfast and lunch for his mother, himself, and Toby. Toby... It was still a question of whether he still existed in this timeline. He walked outside and waited for Toby to arrive at his house like usual. One minute went by, two, three...
"Jimbo!" Toby exclaimed.
"Toby!" Jim pulled him into a hug and gave him the lunch he had prepared for him.
"I didn't use mayo this time." Jim commented.
"But-"
"Don't think about it too much, Tobes." Jim looked at the old shortcut. "Let's take the canal."
Jim sped down the rocky pathway and flung his bike off the edge of the cement lining the canal, landing on his bike's wheels as Toby followed close behind. Jim walked towards the pile of rocks sitting in the canal. The pile of rocks that used to be Kanjigar. He dug through it, trying to find the amulet. He saw a bright, blue light shining through the depressing gray. He pulled the light out and stared at the amulet in his hands.
"James Lake Jr." It called.
"What is that thing?" Toby asked him.
"We'll see soon, Tobes. We'll see."
Nobody had a single clue what Jim had gone through and it was a large possibility they never would. But, that doesn't matter now because this time, this time it will be the future.
--The end--
***Little note- He does everything the exact way he did in the original timeline. When it comes time to use the stone to travel back in time, he just breaks it instead. So, he manages to save everyone in just the movie, but I forgot to explain :,) So I'm sorry for the confusion. It's just really hard for me to read this because I just die internally when I do. Glad I finally decided to.***
