Raya told Amara all that's been happening with Chief Benja and Dalia. Amara sighed and said, "Your highness, I understand your pain. I truly do. But if the Chief wants to move on with someone who is amazing, you can't just...stop him. Or is it that you do not like this woman?"
"No...I do. She cares about me so much and she is like a mother figure. That's what makes it hurt even more. She is a very great person but she's passing her limit."
"I understand how you feel Princess Raya. I really do. But I want you to think about it from a different perspective. You know that your mom lives on in your heart right?"
"Yes, I feel her love enveloping me...it's just that her corporeal form isn't here." said Raya as she folded her arms and sighed.
"And I know how much you miss her. But even though she's not here, she lives on inside you. And that is something no one can replace or take away from you. And...Dalia will show the love that your mother has shown you."
"You just contradicted yourself. You said no one can replace her yet you're saying Dalia will show the love my mom showed. That's basically a way of replacement." Raya was getting a little irritable.
"Princess, that is not what I mean. Think about this. If you're in need of care at a doctor and the doctor who you normally see is not available, will you just leave? Or will you stay and let another help you? I'm sure you'd want the care. You'd interact with that new doctor and allow them to help you. It is the same scenario. Dalia wants to be the mother in your life. It's not that you're going to abandon thoughts of your real mother, but you're going to work with Dalia so that you have a happy family." explained Amara.
Raya didn't immediately respond. Amara was correct. The next step is for her to work with Dalia and accept her into her family. She was still uncomfortable and it'll take time but it's something she had to try and do.
"You're right Amara...I-I guess I'll try to think of it that way." said Raya.
Amara smiled and said, "Wonderful."
"Thank you, I...I feel a little better."
"My pleasure your majesty. I'm happy to help. And if you ever need someone to talk to, I'm here for you."
"I really appreciate it." replied Raya with a smile.
Raya returned home and Amara returned to her home. She saw her father and Dalia on a walk in the garden. She tried to pass by unnoticed and while walking, she overheard a part of their conversation.
..................................................
"So, when do you think we should let her know this?" asked Chief Benja."I'm not sure, dear. And honestly, I don't know how she's going to feel about this...I think it will really upset her." replied Dalia.
"Yeah...if news of us dating made her so distressed, imagine her hearing that..."
Raya was on edge to know what else the couple was hiding from her but what Chief Benja said in the latter part was almost inaudible.
"Do you think we should let Namaari and Chief Virana know? We can send a letter and ask them to...keep it a secret. I think we should let Raya know later down. I want her to get comfortable with me being a part of her family first." said Dalia.
"Most certainly honey, I think this would really bombard her. And, I don't want that. But I'll send the notice to Fang in a few days. How are you feeling though?" asked the Chief.
"Honestly, much better. That herbal tea helped a lot." replied Dalia.
"Good to know."
Raya walked away since it sounded as though they were heading in her direction. When she was at a good distance, she stopped one of the servants and said, "Hello, Liam. By chance, did you hear what happened to Dalia?"
"Good day your highness, I'm not sure but I did hear that she is feeling okay now."
"Oh, that's good. Thank you."
As Raya was about to walk away, Liam stopped her and said, "Actually Princess, I'm happy I ran into you. It bothers me and other servants that your father is treating Dalia more special than the rest of us. You know that 'favoritism' behavior? It's not that he's treating us bad in any way, he's just treating her like she's better than the rest of us." explained Liam.
Raya wanted to spill the truth but then she didn't know if they wanted it to be publicly known that they were together. Instead, she said, "I understand, I will bring this to his attention...Anonymously of course."
"Thank you, your majesty. It's almost as if they're dating each other."
"Oh uh-- I...thought so too. But uh, you'll know what's going on...in due time." said Raya uneasily.
"Thank you."
Raya left to her room and released a big sigh of relief. She wanted to stop thinking about her Ba and Dalia for a while. She just needed a breather. She planned to not bring up anything for a few days and act as normal as possible. She was trying to accept all that's going on but she couldn't just soak it all in, she was already oversaturated and needed to take everything one step at a time.
She took a shower and went to have lunch before resorting back to her room to lay on her carpet and read one of her favorite books. In the late evening, her Ba knocked on her door and said, "Raya? May I enter?"
"Sure Ba." replied Raya.
Her eyes were still fixated on the pages of her book. Chief Benja smiled that she was presumably in a much better mood.
"How are you doing dewdrop?" Asked the Chief.
"I'm okay Ba." replied Raya as she took her focus from her book and to her Ba.
"You sure?" asked Chief Benja.
"Yeah." replied Raya with a smile and using a nod to emphasize her response.
The Chief gave her a hug and said, "I'm happy to know that you're doing better, I love you dewdrop. Your mother loves you, and Madam Dalia loves you too."
"I love you all too. And I'm trying to...focus on and accept this new reality."
"That's wonderful. I'll let you get back to your reading. Enjoy the rest of the night."
"Thank you Ba, you too." replied Raya.
Raya felt so much more positive about everything but was still pretty curious about what her father and Dalia were hesitant on telling her. And what could it be that might get Raya upset? She couldn't ignore the curiosity that constantly flooded her mind about all of this.
