Rigid Treachery

He finally did it. Cedric finally made his move to take over the kingdom. Granted, you always, sort of knew it was coming. The man talks to himself really loudly, so you had known about his "secret evil plans" practically since you met him.

You just never assumed that it wouldn't be you he hesitated on.

The day had started off great. Nothing seemed off, Cedric was the same stuttering mess he tended to be when in your presence. The two of you had made plans to go stargazing when he got back from the wizard meet up. Cedric was going to teach you what constellations influenced magic, and what positions they ought to be in. In return, you had spent all afternoon in the kitchens,  making little sweets and cookies for the two of you to share. It was going to be cute, and romantic, and you just couldn't wait. Restless butterflies attacked your stomach as you baked, the sweetness in your smile only comparable to  the powdered sugar you dusted the tarts with. Wiping your flour covered hands on the hem of your skirt, you neatly arranged sweet creations into a honey-yellow basket, pausing one or twice to "sample" your creations."

"It's going to be perfect," you mumble to yourself through a mouthful of pastry. All that was left to do was to bribe Gwen, the dishwasher, to clean your bowls and you were all set for a lovely night with your not-quite-boyfriend-not-quite-friend. Who needed labels anyway? While neither of you quite had the guts to officially confess, the attraction was pretty obvious on both sides. Cedrics bright red face was quite the give away, and your grin that stretched ear to ear was not doing you any favors either.  While words were never said, who needs them? Loving Cedric was brushing shoulders while he read aloud, exchanging flowers that were "picked accidentally",  lingering fingers that brush hair out of your face. It was linked pinkies while walking through the garden, and tender stares when you think the other isn't looking. It was a shy love, and a quiet one, but it was just right for the two of you. Sliding Gwen some extra treats, you place the lid on the basket and weave your way out of the chaotic kitchen.

The plan was to head right to the tower to read a while and wait for Cedric, but as you walked through the halls you spotted a familiar carriage heading for the castle. Little weird. Sofia and Cedric seemed so excited for this gathering, yet they are back so soon? You shrug, and swap directions. Weird or not, you wanted to be the first to hear all the cool things the little princess saw today. A magician convention had got to have some interesting stories. What if they saw some new creature? Or got to witness a fancy magic dual? Lost in your own excitement, you practically run to the front entrance. Crossing in front of the throne room, you see him!

"Cedric!" Cheerfully, you fling your one arm up to wave excitedly, treat basket balanced precariously on your hip. A wide grin spreads across your face as the sorcerer turns to look at you, and you open your mouth, a million questions scrambling to reach your lips. What did you see? Was it fun? Was Merlin there? Where's Sofia?.

But instead, the world comes to a halt. The air pushing up from your lungs freezes painfully in your throat. You arm hangs in the air, heavy, but you can't pull it down. Violent Silence hits your ears, as your eardrum stills its vibrations. Any attempts to draw a calming breath was met with stillness, and panicked suffocation. You didn't feel like you needed to breath, but desperately sought out some relief in the familiar action. Desperate panic hits, but it feels... wrong. Like something is missing even from your hysteria. "My hearts not beating."

The only thing working is your eyes, and your briefly snapped out of your agitation by Cedric suddenly being very, very close to you. Your field of vision is extremely limited, due to the fact your eyes have stilled within their sockets but Cedric was here, he surely knew how to fix what happened, right? It must have been a misfire, or one of his new spells went wrong. He'll undo it, and things will be fine and dandy.

Cedric placed a hand on your shoulder, looking at you with the same, tender gaze you've seen thousands of times before. Then, he puts his hand on your waist, and...

Scoots you out of the door way.

Having moved you about 5 inches to the left, Cedric leans in and briefly kisses your forehead, whispering something your frozen ears can't hear. Then, Cedric turns away, abandoning you in your cold, frozen state, focusing instead on... redecoration?

If your heart still worked, you were sure it would be broken. But now that the initial panic was subsiding, all that was available to feel was.. numbness. And aching. Your body felt hollow, like you were just a mind trapped in a plastic shell of a person. Standing by a door for what seemed like forever, and a second. Just... watching. Cedric danced around, looking happier then you've ever seen him. You watched as the throne room progressively got more purple, more dark and gloomy. He finally did it. Your arm grew tired, but not really. Your cheeks hurt from the cheery grin still plastered on your cheeks, but it was more like the illusion of pain. You weren't really sure if you were feeling anything, or if your brain was just telling you that it should be. That's when it happened. When She flew in.

Sofia swooped down on her broom. She and Cedric yelled back and forth, or, at least you think so. Cedric raised his wand, ready to cast, but then... didn't. He couldn't. Sofia grabbed something from him, and

PAIN.

Everything was so loud. The basket of pastries crashed to the floor as you grab your ears, the pounding of your started heart banging like a thousand drums. Your lungs gasp for air, choking and sputtering as knees bang against the floor. Everything you lost came rushing back at once, the overwhelming sensation making your vision blurry and spotted. Fire raced through your chest as finally, your body, not just your brain, processed the betrayal. As the racing of your heartbeat starts to fade from your ears, you hear Cedric yelling at the king, as he was being taken away by the guards. They passed you, you think.

The last thing you remember was a pair of tiny hands on your hunched shoulders, before everything went black.

A/N

I'm not proud of it, I kinda hate it. But its an update! Surprise! I am not dead, just rarely motivated. This is probably part one. I know its different from what I normally post. Just in a descriptive mood. Thanks all for the love and support! I repay with more angst.
