Let you Down (The Material) Song fic

(Y/N)  curled up on the floor of her room, a burning ball of anger and sorrow. Why did this happen? Cedric, dear dear Cedric, used you?

So here we are again
And you're thinking that you've won
And I, I still can't recognize the person that you've become

A few days ago..

You hummed a bit as you skipped your way up the steps to your boyfriends tower. You had been crushing on the gentle sorcerer for quite some time, and were ecstatic when you found out he felt the same. It was coming up on your three month anniversary, and while you weren't one for meaningless holidays it had been a while since the two of you went on a proper date. Knowing how scatterbrained your lover was, you had planned a really nice day for the two of you and just wanted to let Cedric know to save the date. That, and it was a perfect excuse to go see your favorite sorcerer. Nearing the top, you slowed your pace as you heard Cedric's voice coming through the heavy wooden door

"I hope he isn't in the audience with the king," You thought, worried. Cedric never seemed like himself after those meetings. To avoid barging in on something you shouldn't, you tiptoed up to the door and pressed your ear against it.

"We will soon do it Wormy," Cedric's voice exclaimed, muffled a bit by the door. "The moon is almost prime for magic, and if I can cox that little librarian to lend me the enchanted book of freezing, Enchanica will soon be ours!"

It was like someone froze the blood in your veins. The Enchanted Book Of Freezing held the spell and counter-spell for one of the most powerful paralyzing curses in all of Enchancia. The spell was powerful enough to freeze even the most powerful of all dragons for eternity, and even if the counter-spell was used, there was only a 50 percent chance of it working. The books existence was guarded by one person and one person alone. You.

You stumbled back, rapidly trying to process what you heard. That couldn't have been what you heard. You don't have the full context. Trying to regain your balance, you pressed your ear harshly against the door, praying that Cedric had some other meaning to what he said.

"-of course I'm sure it will work wormy. The book can only be accessed by those whom the bookkeeper trusts wholeheartedly and I've spent three whole months building up this trust.  She adores me. This plan, unlike the others, will not fail. I'll simply ask her to show me the book on our anniversary and then all the strongest power in all of Enchanica will be mine!

Stumbling backwards, all you could feel were the hot tears that were streaming down your face. Ever other part of you was numb, and it felt like your heart had stopped beating. Despair fully took over, and you ran out of the tower.

Will you look and see what you've done to me?
I've been crying on the floor
Can you hear me now as I'm walking out?
I won't take this, take this anymore

Present Day (Anniversary)

It had been days. The tears ran out after the first night. You weren't sure what was left. Betrayal was such a complicated feeling. Your chest was hot but your soul felt numb. There was only one thing on your mind. Standing up, you straighten out your work dress and walk over to the door. The show was about to start.

I didn't mean to let you down
I didn't mean to call you out
I didn't mean to spread your little secrets all around
I didn't mean to walk away when you were lying to my face
I didn't mean to turn right back and put you in your place
Or, maybe I did.
