You and Jade had arrived at your house it seems just as the rain had started pouring. Although the size of your house wasn't quite as impressive as others, it seemed Jade didn't mind. Your mother had fallen asleep upon the table again, and you had deftly done what you always had; taken care of her. You rather efficiently moved around the kitchen as Jade had watched, watching you move in a matter of minutes, not nearly enough time for her to respond to the situation. Your mother, now wrapped in a blanket, with a small pillow under her head, and laptop closed, empty cups of coffee now in the sink.
You kissed her on the forehead sweetly, a fond look in your eyes. Your mother worked so hard, and you were proud to be her child. She truly accepted you, and did all she could. She was nothing like... him, no matter how much you missed him. You walked upstairs, Jade trailing behind you, as you sat back on your bed, and she looked around, mildly impressed at your space, fairy lights twinkling on the ceiling to keep the space lit when you weren't in it. You weren't the strongest, and the dark scared you, but your mother was okay with you having these lights, even if it was a bit extra to the light bill.
She looked at the random objects you had on the shelves with no shame, and you blushed awkwardly, rifling through your bag to take out the needed supplies for the project. Jade had been the one to break the silence, while you tried not to panic at her questions.
"What was that about?" She said, with a raised eyebrow, the question made you drop the supplies in shock, hoping she didn't mean what you thought she meant. It's hard to talk about your family. Especially when they were the way they were.
"What was what about...?" You had decided to act dumb in hopes she would give up the line of questioning, but over time, you had learned that Jade was as stubborn as a mule.
She glanced back at you, with a raised eyebrow, her arms crossing over her chest;
"You know exactly what I mean, Y/n." She said simply, taking the chair out from your desk, and sitting in it, crossing her legs.
"I- I- s-she works real hard I don't understand what the problem is it's normal-" you spoke nervously, fidgeting, looking anywhere but at her, she interrupted you, swiftly cutting off any rambling you could have started.
"It's not normal to be alone all the time. It's not okay that you're alone 24/7." She said, brows furrowed, a bit of concern glowing through her cold, hard façade. ---Why does she care? Why is she looking at me like that? We're just working on a project she shouldn't care about my personal life let alone- besides I have my dog and he's cute but- What do I do---
"It's fine." You said feebly, not even convincing yourself. It's not fine. But you weren't going to cry to someone about it.
Jade's brows furrowed further, and she beckoned you over with a finger. You walked over obediently, looking at her with this sort of anxious air radiating off of you. Your neck itched to move, and a ball of energy in your spine gathered up as you shuddered.
"When was the last time you had hug- and not from Cat." She said suddenly, cutting off any response you could have formed, you pursed your lips, not wanting to say anything.
"When was the last time you and your mother spent time together?"
"I-" You zipped your lips shut as she continued her questioning, holding up a finger for her to let you continue, and you whimpered.
"When was the last time... you had someone to care for you?" She said, the corners of her lips twitching with a frown, her arms refolding and tightening around her torso, she stood and dragged you in for a hug, holding you like something precious. She was warm, and soft, and you didn't know what to think.
"I-I- I don't know- I-I'm sorry i-i've caused you so much trouble." You said quietly, stifling a sob. Human contact was a rarity. You were raised on tough love, and although you had what you needed and a great support system, this was still something you were confused about feeling or receiving at all.
"Shut the fuck up and relax. I'm not mad." She said simply, releasing you and sitting back down in the chair.
"Now, what does this project entail, L/n?"
You were surprised at the sudden quickness of her actions, but understood that she wanted to pretend it didn't happen, and instead chose to continue what you had initially wanted to do.
