The rest was unbearable. Every time you closed your eyes you could hear your inner voice. It screamed insults at you, and you took them, used to it. The dream was swirling, flashing lights and colors, and finally.... an image of It. The image that plagues your thoughts and mind, ever since the accident. You had seen it all. And it was all your fault.

At some point, you fell into your fitful slumber, finally sleeping through the rest of the day. The whimpers and movement in your sleep not going unnoticed by your spectator. The nightmares continued, getting worse and worse. The worst part being the one with abandonment. Not the blood, guts, or gore, or the visceral carnage of your self or the ones you love. Just the pure fear of being alone was enough to make you wake up with startled, sporadic breathing, tears flowing out of your eyes, much to your chagrin.

You had to be strong for her. For the one you loved most. For the one you had left. You had no time for such trivial emotions, when there was so much going on in the world. The thoughts tormented you as you slowly swallowed down your sobs, wiping off the fresh tears on your face.

Oh, how you hated sleep so, the torment caused by it never ending and unruly. When you finally woke, at the end of the final bell, Jade was inside of the closet with you, staring you down with a piercing gaze one could almost call predatory, if not for the flicker of concern. The tears trailed down your cheeks, as you kept trying to wipe them away. Emotions were weakness. And weak, you could not be.

The warmth of a different hand on your face went almost unnoticed, as you looked up a bit, Jade wiping your face with a tissue.

"The mask didn't keep for long, did it S/n?" Your breath hitched in surprise. Of course she noticed. She's always been like that... sneakily observant, even when unseen.

"I know a mask when I see one, idiot. Don't think I wouldn't notice if you were hurting." Her face morphed into anger, her tone and volume rising as she spoke. It made you even more jumpy.

"I thought it would stay for longer, I'm sorry. I should've been stronger. I should've been able to keep it up. I would have if I wasn't so weak. I could've tried. Why am I so weak-" Your speech got cut off by the booming tone of Jade, who said the most bromidic thing known in romance films, and any fanfiction that involved comfort known to man.

"Stop it with the coulda, woulda, shouldas. I don't have time for that bullshit." Your inner cliche finder rolled its eyes, while you just looked at her, crying silently, your posture abhorrent, and your face contorted in pain.

"Stop crying before I leave you alone in this closet," because I swear to god S/n, with your cute little pout right now, if something scared a horror movie writer that much, I'm leaving your fine ass here.

You hiccoughed lamely, snivelling like a little kid who got their phone taken away. Jade's scowl deepened, but  she sighed, leaving you alone in the hallway closet, with a little card, which held a phone number on it. That was the last you saw of her that day, as your inner beratement got the best of you, and made you stop crying and leave, the phone number in hand, and now saved in your contacts.

The car ride home was filled with deafening silence, as you forgot to turn on your music.

When you got home, the house was just as lonely before. It seemed while you were at school, your mother had eaten and cleaned a little, before she went back to work upstairs.

Your bags were unloaded, and you headed upstairs, crashing into your bed, before reading for the rest of the night.

Still as lonely as ever.....
