The project outline and setup had been pretty simple. You and Jade were doing a small skit, and you all had a different theme. Yours was Horror and Romance. You both had decided to do something interesting; A villainous couple, who triumph in the end. There was a small problem though, there was a kissing scene that had to be involved, and it made you really anxious. The scene was a large part of the romance premise, and you had both planned to make the couple healthy, well, as healthy as a villain couple could be, and that would mean a lot of... human contact.
By the time you both were around halfway through writing the script, you grew bored, and it seemed so did she, because she was the one who eventually broke the silence.
"What's that necklace you're always wearing for?" She asked suddenly, and you barely fumbled out a lie in response, seemingly stalling and looking away from her.
"I-it's for a thing- I wouldn't worry- It's fine!" You said, beginning to pick at your cuticles. You hoped she wouldn't push, but Jade, as always, did.
"We both know you're lying, Jeez for someone who calls me every night you sure are avoiding talking to me or admitting you like me."
"I- w-wh- I-" You took a minute to think about your answer, embarrassed for not only being called out on your crush, but also starting to go on a spiral on both how you should answer and because you thought she had called you a liar. It didn't mean you didn't lie, it just made the guilt lay in more thickly.
"I-it... it... reminds me of my dad." You spoke, fidgeting with the necklace in question, not noticing how your sleeve was slowly sliding down. You were willing to explain, but you hadn't been prepared to talk about it yet.
"Your dad?" She prompted, but before you could answer she spoke once more, looking up from the computer and into your eyes with her piercing gaze. "And before you answer, I don't wanna make you hate me too much. So don't feel like you have to give me too much detail." She said, her gaze falling back to the screen, and she finally mumbled, "We all have secrets, and you are entitled to having them."
You took a deep breath, her assurance helping you bolster yourself, and you swayed softly to the music, before beginning the story which you hadn't uttered to anyone.
"My dad... He died in a car crash on his way to get some alcohol. I had made him angry that night, I had come out and he wasn't.... he wasn't h-happy- and he got really mad-" Your voice slowly went softer, tears welling in your eyes, you had been blaming yourself for it for ages, and you still did. Jade picked up on your signals, putting the computer to the side, there was something about you that was more small, like a hidden sliver, protected from the world. "It was my fault I shouldn't have- I w-was bad I couldn't- I never shut up- he was fired because of me- because his boss found out and- and that was the day I confirmed what his boss told him- I wasn't ready to be out yet but his boss saw me- The necklace is the color of his eyes- it's my fault- I'm sorry I shouldn't be telling you this- I don't want you to pity me and I know that it was my fault- I'm sorry-" You cried, rambling out the same repeated concepts in different words.
"You know, Y/n, I did ask. You don't have to be sorry for answering a question I asked and trying to avoid further ones. It's not your fault. Did he do anything to you?" She was now worried, she was worried that, like her own father, your father had hurt you.
"Yes" You admitted. "But I deserved-"
Jade interrupted, "I don't want to know exactly what he did to you but nobody deserves abuse, or neglect, or anything like that, Y/n. Nobody."
"Why do you care- And I did I-"
"Because I like you and care for you, Idiot"...
