Stoic and ever primped Mrs. Wang steps into her husband's office as soon as the unexpected visitor leaves. Mr. Wang is seated at his desk, looking rattled and lost in thought, muttering curses under his breath.
"What did that man want?" Mrs. Wang asks naturally, feigning ignorance, being her normal nosy self.
The annoyed man lifts his eyes and zeros in on his wife with a scowl. "Patricia, were you eavesdropping?"
I always eavesdrop! That's the only way to stay alive in this family. "Is there something you need to hide from me?" Her tone becomes accusatory.
"Pat, leave me alone," Mr. Wang advises. "I know that tone and I'm not in the mood."
"Why? What happened?" She's obviously not going to let this one go, for the sake of her son and her daughter-in-law.
"Patricia..."
"Wei Wang! Tell me this minute what that man wanted!" she orders, her eyes bulging out of their sockets, her hands propped on her hips.
Akin to a tube of toothpaste, when Mr. Wang is pressed, he feels exasperated and blurts everything out, and his wife is an expert at provoking him.
"He told me that our son is working undercover for the FBI!" he yells, indignant.
Patricia's heart sinks to her feet. Until the last second, she had kept a shred of hope that maybe the outsider was here for another reason, but now there is no doubt that Dylan is in danger, as well as Yue.
"Who was that man? How does he know something like that?" she asks so that Dylan can hear his identity but trying to make her husband believe this is the first time she's hearing about the issue.
"What difference does it make who he is?" Mr. Wang smacks his tight fists on the desk. "I can't believe our son would do this to us only to get out of jail earlier. I knew there was something odd going on when he came here with that woman! He had never dated Chinese women before."
