Chapter 13
They slowly made their way to the island, seeing that the entire part of the landmass was abandoned. The capital of the entirety of the Skylands was near the boundary, however, many villages and farms and even manors were outside from the capital. Ludo and Sully never even bothered to go, as they had more important obligations on their mind.
They had traveled for more than five hours just to get to an island that they could see from their own view. Must be an illusion Ludo thought, ignoring the peculiar realization. Must have been a spell put by a wizard to fool people trying to come there. Ludo thought, not thinking much of the thought.
They finally reached the edge of Færil's vast land, and what they saw was unbelievable.
The grassy field was lush and green, however, once they had gotten there, the grass in a 50 foot radius suddenly turned yellow, then to the very edge, black on some parts. The very edge also had a once luxurious however long bridge. The wood peeled off at many parts, and the thick rope cut at an angle, preventing any access to the landmass. However, Ludo knew another way into the Caringol Islet.
"How are we gonna get in?" Sullivan asked, thinking that Ludo would have a way. "This might be risky, but we're gonna go on the edge of here, and swing onto the other side."
Ludo's explanation was unclear, and it left Sullivan confused.
"The island is literally hundreds of feet away from Fæeril. If travelling there is so easy, then anyone would be here right now."
"Shh," Ludo said. He suddenly moved toward the worn down bridge, and slipped down toward the narrow end part where the end part of the bridge was. Soon, he was out of sight.
Sully slowly walked to the edge, like a hunter who killed a lion, and was trying to see if it was actually dead. He looked over the edge, but couldn't find Ludo anywhere.
"Ludo?" Sullivan yelled from above. No answer. He tried again. "Ludo!", again no answer. If he was anywhere, it certainly wasn't here.
Suddenly, Sullivan's foot slipped and the force of gravity made him fall down the small but dangerous crevice in between the rocks. "AHH" He screamed, but no one was even there. He attempted to scale the rocks, but his hands couldn't get a good grip. He instead sliced his palm on a sharp rock, and the pain was insane. He screamed ever louder. "AHHHHH"
"Shut up, you're pathetic." Ludo's voice came from below. Ludo was mushed between two rocks, holding one of the cut ropes from the worn down bridge. Sullivan, still gripping the side of the rope, looked traumatized. A near death experience for sure.
"Now explain, how are we supposed to get to the Caringol islet?" Sullivan was annoyed. Ludo wouldn't give a good answer to it.
"Here's a better response," Ludo said. "Do you know why you don't ever see people here? Yes there may be evil in that island, but many of the creatures and monsters can't fly. They Depend on that single island."
"Uhh, why would I care? We have more important things to worry about!" Sullivan tried to get back on topic.
Ludo ignored his remark and continued. "Guardian dragons. Special dragons trained by the elite wizards of the skylands to keep track of passersby and illegal crossing. Especially on this island. There are probably around three or so. That's why we are here right now."
"Ok, but we have to get to the island, who knows, they might be dead already!" Sullivan was getting more and more tenacious by the second.
Suddenly, a loud roar was heard. It was definitely from far away, but it was extremely loud. Ludo noticed this, and sensed something was wrong. This was not any normal dragon's sound. Wasn't even a wyvern, or drake. It was Much MUCH more ferocious and loud, as if the creature was twice as big as a normal dragon.
