Chapter 27
The air was cool, and slight breezes would come every once in a while, which refreshed the travelers, giving little if not any sense of fatigue on them. The sun shone high above, it was the perfect noon, with clouds that had appeared like gusts of magic mana, great clouds covered large areas of the sky, almost making the world around them seem like heaven.
The skylands were large landmasses floating in the sky, it was said that many years before, in a war between two ancient nations, massive giants the size of mountains had grabbed chunks of landmass and threw it up into the air in order to completely decimate the opposing army, whos wizards had sacrificed their life in order to completely stop the landmasses from falling. Hundreds of wizards had died from the strain of keeping the land transfixed in the air, spending incredible amounts of mana because of it, nowadays, wizards from across the world had donated mana to the skylands in order to keep them fixed onto the sky, eventually civilizations emerged on the skylands, and enormous cities that held thousands of people emerged with it. After this it was not work letting go of the skylands and letting them fall.
The skylands were miles above the ground, and letting go of the mana and dropping any islands of any size would be a disaster guaranteed to cause deaths. Therefore nothing changed in the skylands, and everything was completely fine the way it was.
After hours and hours of traveling Ludo, Faron and Thramor had stopped to take a rest at a tree.
"How did we not get incinerated by those tarragons is my question." Faron said suddenly. "It's not a common thing, just killing a tarragon like that."
Ludo grunted and stared at the sky, the clouds above him almost made him forget he was thousands of feet above land.
Tarragons were quite literally one of the worst things you could run into as a ordinary person, they were dragons with scales as hard as iron, the size of a large house, with breath that could evaporate humans in seconds, they for sure are some of the most ferocious beasts in existence, however they were not of Ludos concern. He had more important things on his mind. He had to rescue Sully somehow. And he had to kill Draven.
The three had rested by the tree for a good 30 minutes or so, with no food and water the only thing you could do was catch a nap. They were all incredibly hungry, not eating anything for days.
Faron suddenly stood up and repositioned his sword in his sheathe.
"C'mon let's go. We're gonna die from starvation if we don't get to that city, ersten or whatever it's called."
Thramor grumbled and got up, Ludo did shortly after.
The rest of the trip took little over an hour, and by the time they had reached the glorious gates of Erenstein, the pure golden mana rushing off the sides of the wall like water dripping from a stone. The city was a sight to behold, even though the city was covered with massive walls, hundreds of feet high, Ludo could see the buildings and busy life that the city had going on.
"It's quite remarkable how a massive city like this can just exist in an almost empty area." Thramor noted.
"I'm sure if we go east or something there will be some farms here and there, besides, a city with this much activity is quite a sight to behold. The only city I've been to that can be even close to this is Astoria."
Ludo grumbled. "Lets just hold the guards won't question two knights and a 7 foot tall dwarf."
Thramor grinned and threw a light hearted laugh. "Hope so."
They strutted down a hill that had shielded most of the city, and saw hundreds of people waiting in a line to get into the city. The main city entrance was massive, wider than a dragon from snout to tail, and taller than a tarragon standing on its hind legs. Stone was inlaid into the floor where they stood, even outside the city the brick was laid.
