Chapter 23

The trolls and the tarragons vs Ludo and Faron, it was not fair and mostly one sided, but they had to defend the people.

"Let's split up and fight the trolls first, after all they are easier to handle." Faron said.

Ludo agreed and they both ran at the trolls, the tarragons screeched in confusion as they ran across a small area of trees and seemed to vanish, however, Ludo and Faron were actually heading to attack the trolls.

The trolls were maybe 20 feet tall and must have been many tons heavy. Their feet and legs were very disproportionate to their body as they needed larger legs in order to sustain a large body. They both had metal mask helmets of steel that were seemingly needed to fight against arrows, which could very easily kill a troll if shot at the eyes.

"Let's see..." Faron said. "If you get hit by any of their attacks, especially with their wooden club, you are dead. Especially with armor, that wouldn't help. I doubt your astorian armor with the ability of getting stronger every time its damaged will even be enough. Maybe the highest grade of valerian steel would be able to stop it, however, the blunt force would kill almost anyone."

Ludo nodded and they proceeded to go along with the attack. Attacking the trolls in the open meadow would be a huge disadvantage to them, as they would have way more room to attack. Attacking the trolls in a forest with a lot of trees would be the best but wouldn't be realistic. Trolls were dumb, but they knew that fighting in a forest was the worst way to go.

Faron grabbed an area of his cloak and revealed a small pouch of what seemed to be coins of some sort. Ludo felt them and realized that they were sharp and pointy caltrops. Faron took them out of the bag, and he then slowly rolled several out on the grassy meadow. Then he took a small rock and threw it at the troll.

The rock bounced off the troll's back and made it confused.. Who had thrown the rock? Noticing the small area of trees was where the rock seemingly came from, the troll slowly lumbered toward the trees, but then stepped on some caltrops that Faron had placed. A large crunching sound was made, almost as if you had stepped on rocks with steel beneath your feet.

Ludo and Faron expected an extreme reaction to the caltrops, like the troll falling, but instead the troll kept moving toward the trees.

What the heck? Ludo thought. How could the troll just ignore caltrops like that?

"This isn't good." Faron whispered. "The trolls are barefoot, and the calluses on their feet must be hard enough to withstand caltrops without any pain. We need to find another way."

The trolls continuously approached, stepping on more and more caltrops, but still not providing a single reaction.

Before they knew it, the troll swung its massive wooden club at the trees, smashing through the tree trunks like paper.

Ludo and Faron were swept away from the area of trees, which were completely destroyed by a single swipe of the troll's wooden club.

They both fell out in the open meadow, and upon their sight on the troll, it started rushing toward the two, knocking over the very little amount of trees that weren't destroyed by his attack.

The other troll seemingly took notice of this and also went berserk. He rushed toward where his brother was running trying to see what was going on.

The two trolls rushed Ludo and Faron, clubs in hand, a single swipe of the clube would be more than enough to kill the two.

Ludo and Faron readied their swords for combat, and Ludo's blade shone with fire.

The first troll went for Ludo, he pummeled the ground with his massive club, the slam pummeled through the ground like a boulder making waves, Cracks appeared in the once perfect ground. Ludo rolled out of the way, barely missing the attack that otherwise would have killed him.
