Chapter 18
The front of the caravan had multiple seats there, where the driver would sit. A thin amount of glass separated the driver from the trolls that were ten feet away from them. Ludo went up to the front of the caravan, and peeked through the glass pane.
"We have all the people in the caravan. This is our last trip, out of our other ten ones just to get all the people."
Ludo heard the raspy voice, and immediately recognized it. He saw the lich, with his skeletal frame, however, his body was much larger and stronger than it had been before, and his eyes were glowing with green, manæ overflowing through at certain times.
"At last, ten trips, we could have done it in five if this dumb bitch didn't interfere through our eigth trip!"
Ludo heard a slap that crackled through the air, Maegara had slapped Zolags face, and his head turned sideways.
"Shut up goblin. We have important things to discuss."
"How many people are in the caravan right now?" The lich asked.
"Fifty, if you include the elf boy that we had found recently, it would be fifty-one."
The lich's facial bones creaked a bit, as his face emitted a suspicious look.
"Fifty-one? There were five-hundred people in that tree" the lich responded, suspiciously.
Zolag's face turned, and he did an eyebrow raise. "That's way too suspicious. Who knows, maybe the boy is an imposter among us."
The lich's face relaxed a little. "That's very suspicious. Get the guards to round up the prisoners and find the boy."
Zolag and Maegara nodded, and headed outside, and Ludo immediately walked away, pretending to just scour the area.
The two went up to the caravan, and peeked inside of the bars. Zolag mentioned one of the elite guards to come near.
"We need to find a certain elf boy, the one that was escorted in only moments before. I want the boy NOW. Investigate everyone."
The guard nodded, and notioned for the other guards to come and help him with his task. Five other guards with silvery masks and the gambeson went with him to investigate the case.
...
Sully noticed the six guards walking into the cage, and immediately pulled out an invisibility spell. This was the best he could do for now. They could still feel him and smell his scent, but he was out of sight... For now...
The people around him stood silent, as the guards started looking around for Sully. The man in front of Sully felt his shoe, and when he looked over, he saw nothing.
"What the hell..." The man exclaimed... "There... There's someone here!"
The guards immediately looked at the man. Sully's hair stood on end. You gotta be kidding me! I've been ratted out! What a rat!
Sully had no choice but to move to another area. The floor creaked as he scooted aside away from the man, and safely moved to a corner that was ridden with cobwebs but no signs of a spider.
The guard looked out among the crowd of people out to where the man that ratted out Sully.
Everyone watched closely as the guard approached the man.
He felt the ground behind him, and stood silent once he had found nothing there.
A red face appeared on the man that had ratted. Sully could see that the man's entire body was completely still, not even a single hint of any movement from him, everyone else in the caravan deathly silent.
The guard looked over at the man, whose face was as red as a tomato.
"You... You lied...."
"No... I swear... The person is hiding. I'M SURE OF IT!"
"You wasted our precious time. You fucking troll."
The guard turned and grabbed the man by the neck, and raised him up to the ceiling, the guard far taller than the man.
The man, once silent, screamed with all his might, froth coming out of his dirty mouth, that had all of the teeth blackened.
"AHHHHHHEHHHHHHHHUHHHHHHHHHH"
His veins bulge out of his skin, his blue and red veins visible hidden behind the guards metal gauntlets.
The guard immediately grabbed a wooden handled dagger out of a small sheith, and plunged it deep into the man's neck with surprising accuracy. The blood spurted out of his veins like water out of a barrel, with the man's eyes turning white.
He was frothing out the mouth, his head almost decapitated from the rest of his body by how deep the dagger went in.
The guard immediately dropped the man's body, and his body landed with a THUMP.
The guard's dagger was bright red, as he put it back into his sheith. He then returned to the rest of the guards with the body on his shoulder almost like nothing had ever even happened.
Everyone was deathly silent, everyone traumatized from the scene that they had experienced. Sully felt sick to his stomach when looking at the blood that was sprayed on the floor.
He was in shock, but he hadn't been found for now...
Ludo came to the rest of the guards with the man's body on his back.
What kind of person would try to troll in this situation?
He asked himself while casually strolling out of the caravan. He was sure that he would seem less suspicious if he had killed an innocent civilian. It was the wrong thing to do... But the lives of many, many more people were more important than one insignificant person.
Immediately, when he left the caravan, he dropped the body near a bush, and an announcement was made by Maegara.
"Everyone! We are now leaving the camp. Everyone returns to base. This is our last trip. Then we can harvest an indescribable amount of power from the artifacts, manæ and most importantly... The PEOPLE!"
Everyone at the camp shouted and cheered, their voices echoed through the night sky like a man yelling in a cave. The cheering died down once the caravan started moving. The trolls slowly moved their legs across the chains, and the tarragons flied up to the moonlit sky, flying forward along with the trolls below them.
Ludo saw the rest of the patrol guards going back to the caravan, the lauf flying alongside the caravan, and the goblins moving alongside.
He looked at the silver bars and saw the people in the caravan, looking at him with empty eyes. They had known what he had done, and inside, he felt guilt, something he had rarely ever felt in his entire life, but... He knew that it was all for the better.
