Boketto; The act of gazing vacantly into the distance without a thought.

"Can we get two applications?" I ask the lady at customer service. Their sign doesn't say what positions are open but I just need a job and I'm not doing it alone.

"Why?" The lady with a stick up her ass asks.

I give her a dirty look and look over to the doors to the right of us.

I walk over and rip the "We're hiring! Apply inside!" sign off the door and walk back over to customer service and throw the sign on the counter.

"Why do you want the job?" She clarifies.

"Because working at a grocery store turns me on." My voice dripping with sarcasm.

The lady gives me a horrified look while River laughs but tries to cover it up with a cough.

"Obviously we need a job, why else?" I say in a more serious tone.

"You won't get a job with a smart ass mouth like that." She mutters.

"Don't ask smart ass questions." I scoff. River nudges my side causing me to wince.

This whole being nice approach isn't working out for me and I think it's obvious.

She slaps two applications down on the counter, "Fill these out and bring these back and we may or may not get back to you."

I grab both of the applications and start to walk away. "Than-" River starts to say but I cut him off, "No."

He huffs and catches up to me. "Where are we going now?" He asks as we walk deeper into the store.

"I need to get a few things."

As we go down a few aisles I realize there is a lot of old people here for no reason.

"Do you like elderly people?" I randomly ask.

"Of course, they are so sweet." I stop in my tracks which causes him to unexpectedly run into me since he was behind me.

"Oh shit." He mumbles. "Why'd you stop?"

I turn around and face him. "What?" He asks again when I don't say anything.

"Do you not like old people or something? They are really nice to me and call me nice names." He rambles on.

I sigh, "What am I doing wrong?" I mumble.

"I'm telling you, it's that path to kindness that you aren't on." He shrugs.

"No, all elderly people think they are so entitled and have a right to do everything. We are all human, they are just going to expire sooner." I tell him as we start walking again.

"You must not be meeting the right elderly people then."

"Don't forget that one old lady that called you stupid." I remind him. That was funny, she just had a stick up her ass too.
