From The Dining Table - Harry Styles

I stepped off the plane and looked at my phone. Time change wasn't terrible, but it wasn't fun either. San Francisco time isn't too far behind Mississippi, just like three hours, but thats three hours i'm losing for someone who doesn't even like to contact me of her own free will.

That's a half joke.

I gathered my stuff and started to walk out of this stupid airport when someone ran into me.

Fucking perfect

"Oh my god i'm so sorry!" He said, rushing to help me grab my bag. He quickly stood in front of me and i immediately recognized him.

"Oh my god your Jack, Izzy's friend." I said, shock lacing my voice.

"Yeah, you're Kai, correct? Also Izzy's friend?"

"Yeah! Yeah, that'd be me." I laughed. He carried my bag out for me as we walked out of the building.

"What brings you to Cali?" He asked, making small talk as we waited for our Uber's.

"Checkin' in on a friend. I assume you're doing the same."

"Yeah, I am. Asterin I presume for you?" He asked, glancing at me to see how i'd react.

Good luck bud, ive been guarded since age ten.

"Yeah! She's been in not so good shape so i'm gonna try snd cheer her up some. Ranboo?" I asked, glancing at him the back to the ground.

"Yeah, yeah i'm checkin in on the boo." He joked. I smiled and nodded, realizing my Uber was pulling in.

"I gotta go, but maybe we can catch up since were both here?" I yelled as I ran across the street when there were no cars. He nodded and I got in the Uber. He took me to the address I received from Asterin a while back and sighed, knowing this will help her a little bit.

It's September now, summers gone and the air getting cooler. She's in her senior year, but I know she doesnt attend. I know exactly what she does in her free time even though she thinks she hides it well. I know because I've been there, I've done it.

Halfway through the car ride I realized Jack Manifold still had my damn bag with him.

Fuck

"Alright, here's your stop." The man in the front said with a smile. I grabbed my bag and thanked him before walking up the stairs to the door. It was early on a Saturday morning so I knew she'd be here, she always was here.

I took a deep breath before knocking. Once the knocks sounded there was yelling and barking before the door opened and I saw Asterin Heart.

"The fuck you doin' here?" She asked, eyes red and a small smile on her face.

"Checkin' up on your ass. Let's go, let me inside." I said, waving my hand. She let me in and helped me take my stuff to the basement before hugging me.

"You don't understand how much I needed this." Asterin whispered. I just hugged her, allowing her to have her moment. "Nobody else cares this much."

"They do too, Asterin, I know it. They've called me crying over you." I whispered. I know she didn't want to hear it, but she needed to.

"Then why won't they call me?" She asked, pulling away and sitting on the couch.

"I think they're waiting for you to go to them." I said, sitting down next to her. She sat for a moment, pondering every interaction she's had with them in the last few months. There were none, maybe a few texts from them but nothing beyond that.

"Then they clearly don't know me at all." Asterin said, standing up and taking my bags to one of the spare rooms down here. I sighed.

This is gonna take longer than I plan to be here.
