( POV: CORVINA FEARSEY )

I never quite realized how loud silence can be.

The emptiness, the absence of sound, it's deafening. Especially when the echoes of the previous sounds are repeating in your head. It's like inside everything is coming down with rapid speed while the outside world is continuing at its normal speed.

That's why it always feels like the world slows down when traumatizing things happen. It doesn't slow down, you speed up. Everything inside you happens faster, it doesn't match with the calmness of the world.

It's why you want to scream. Let the world hear your pain as if it cares about you. When the screams stop, the echoes remain. The world punishes you by returning your screams with silence.

Loud, earth-shattering silence.

A paradoxical statement, to be fair.

My hands are digging into the dirt underneath me, trying to grasp onto something so the silence won't swallow me whole. Tugging at the root of the weeds, holding onto those roots because mine have crumbled up and disappeared.

My roots don't exist anymore.

Big blue waters surged over them and ripped them out of the ground, dragging them far far away. Out of reach, out of sight.

"What happened here? Everyone okay?" I hear Mera's voice as she nears us. She and the others are probably here because they got worried about us. We should've been down by now.

"Fine," I tell her. "Let's go."

She eyes me weirdly, stepping over to Zale, crouching beside him as she places her hand on his back, "Z, what happened?" Her eyes dart around, searching for the person she'd normally ask these questions to. "Where's Fal?"

A sob escapes Sorin when she asks that, Mera tenses up instantly. "Where is Fallon?"

"And Raze," Tariq adds. "Did they go off somewhere? Why do you all look so defeated? What the fuck happened?"

"Don't worry, they're fine!" I quickly ease their worries. "They just needed to do something but they'll be back shortly!"

They continue to frown and that pisses me off. I said they were busy, didn't I? I roll my eyes, walking past them to the cars.

When the remaining people hear the shouts coming from up the hill they run past me, towards them. Khalid, Caen, the twins, Zillah, all hurry up. But Zillah stops in her tracks when she notes me striding away.

"Corvina, what's going on?"

I sigh, "I told them Fallon and Raze had something to do so that's why they left but they don't believe me. They're fighting about that, I think."
