This road was new to Harry. He'd never been here before. He'd never been to the place Louis now calls home. And what brakes his heart in each passing second, is that it would never be his. That he's not the one taking this way home after work at the studio or on sets everyday. A road to take him home to his husband and his children. It wasn't it.
Their home stands empty back at London. Holding so many memories, so many stories, so many broken promises, so many tears and laughter.
Harry stopped by the side of the road twice during the way there, just to cry to feel relief. Grief filling his heart, making it too hard to move past it. His heart can't take more damage that was for sure, as his eyes watered blocking his view of the road. He felt like vomiting, but he hadn't even eaten anything.
Just a visit-...he would think to himself. Nothing more than a visit. When in fact his mind wanted to run with open arms to hug Louis and never let him go again. Keep him closer, try to fix whatever damage he brought without knowing, try to fix what made Louis forget him, leave him all alone against this world when he promised he'd never leave his side since he was 16.
The dreams and promises of a child. Harry cried there on his car, head against the wheel. He threw his fist over it, screaming knowing no one could hear him on this empty driveway. He was being emotional...Very emotional, but years of holding it back just made it hard for him to swallow it down.
After what seemed to be an endless road trip Harry finally reached the street where Louis now lived in. He parked the car and looked into the small mirror. His eyes held neutral looks, very little signs of the many breakdowns he had along the road.
He opened the door and took the 'welcoming gift' he got for Louis and his son from the passengers seat. He's never meet Freddie either, but by the many pictures Niall showed him, they had a freakish resemblance. Even though it's been a while now, Harry still can't get over the idea that Louis really got a woman pregnant...it just wasn't Louis' thing. Women wasn't his usual category.
It was supposed to be us...-A voice on the back of his head told him. He shook those thoughts away, that wish was buried away with the love he once had on the deepth of his heart now.
Harry inhaled and got out. The house was big, to big for two people to live in it maybe. At the first sight, it actually looked very nice, spacious and maybe a bit over expensive.
He walked the remaining road by foot, passing the street and entering through the big white doors. Maybe he should have called him first...
Niall had told him Louis was usually free at this time of the day, and he hoped that was right. It was just a talk after all, to convince him to come to the show, and confess him everything in process.
Another inhale, another exhale. He ringed the bell. Waiting for Louis to open the door. No answer. So he tried again. This time on the doorstep appeared a nice lady.
"Mr.Styles? Welcome."-She said lovingly but still questioning.
Harry forced a small smile upon his lips.-"Hi Miss. I was wondering if Louis was home?"-Just after he said it, he realised he sounded like a preschool kid asking his friends mother for permission to see them.
The lady smiled.-"Unfortunately Louis just left to go to the nearest market."
Harry sighted.-"What happened? Is he coming soon?"
"Well you see...We ran out of chocolate treats and Freddie was throwing tantrum, so I guess It won't be long for him to come."-The lady said chuckling.
Harry breathed in relieved.-"Can I wait somewhere other than outside till he comes...If that's okay."
"Oh silly me! Come inside. My name is Rose by the way, I am the babysitter."-She said as they walked in.
Harry watched the inside of the house, prettier than the outside. Homely and actually looked like a house a mother would have. Filled with sunlight and plants growing on nearly every corner. Making it extremely friendly, nothing what Louis' personality stood for.
Rose stopped at the living room and gestured for him to sit and feel at home before she disappeared to the kitchen. Those words making him feel more of a stranger than before. Reminding him one more time. This wasn't his life.
Foot stomping where heard from upstairs. And than a very soft enthusiast voice filled the walls of this house.-"Is daddie homeee?"
Harry felt his soul leave his body...the voice...so angelic. How he wished those words where aimed to him. How he wished to say 'I'm home!' To the voice of the child, and than watch as he ran to hug him with the tiny toddler legs he has, giggling through the hallways.
After the voice he saw him. Smiling from the other end of the living room, his shy expression on his cheeks. The blue eyes reminded him of Louis in every single aspect. And the small pixie little nose. Such a close resemblance to his fathers.
Harry stood up, looking at him with a growing heart on his chest. He should probably say something.-"Hi there little one!"-He said with a voice as sweet as his eyes expression.
Freddie walked over there almost bouncing on his chubby legs.-"Hawy? Daddie's Hawy?"-He asked standing a little away from the stranger as he smiled up at him shyly.
Harry had a very hard time finding words to say. The kid was so cute, his heart could barely take all this.-"Yes, Harry, the one that steals your dog every two weeks."
"I know you Hawy!"-He said pointing at the opposite wall of the room where many many pictures of different people and places where hanged.
He found his face in many places, with the boys, with Louis, with Jay and the girls...He smiled. Louis did not entirely wipe him up than.
Harry sat down to his level and just opened his arms while having a smile and teary eyes on his face.-"Can I hug you Freddie?"
Freddie giggled and rushed over there to wrap his small arms around the man his father loved so much.
Harry laughed at the way Freddie's feet could barely reach the ground as he hugged him, so he just took him on his arms and held him. For a moment it felt like he really belonged here. Like this was his home.
"So a bird told me you wanted some chocolates...I got your dad's favourite here, I'm pretty sure you like them too."-Harry said and with one hand balanced Freddie on his side, as he opened the welcoming gift, and took-the chocolate bar out, leaving only the bottle of wine inside.
Freddie clapped his hands cheerfully.-"Yay!! My favowrite! Fank you Hawy!"
Harry opened it for him and watched as the boy enjoyed it. Food will always work on a Tomlinson! That was for sure.
Harry did not put him down, he didn't want his arms to feel empty after all this was over. And he knew he shouldn't get attached...but his heart was just too weak, like it knew this was the right...The right he could not have. The world he dos not belong in, the reality that is far from his.
Just as he thought Louis would not be here for another while, he looked at the doorstep to find Louis already watching them.
