I rubbed my eyes a bit, trying to verify what I just saw. Yup...definitely still metal bulls. Okay, I missed a lot it seems.
"Clarisse to your right!" A camper shouts as a girl with a spear changed her stance so she could pierce the eye of one of the two bulls. The other one was being manhandled by a cyclops apparently named Tyson.
The one attacked by the girl named Clarisse saw me with it's only remaining eye. Oh. That's probably not good. I..I should dodge. The bull pawed at the ground and charged, yup I definitely need to dodge.
But just as I went to roll to the left I saw a bunch of campers behind me running away. If I dodge they'll get hit...if I don't they'll be safe but my secret is pretty much gone.
I hope I made the right call!
I dug my feet into the dirt ground, getting in a firm stance. I outstretched my arms to catch the horns of this thing.
"New guy move! That thing will kill you."
"Could you guys run a bit faster please?" I called to the campers behind me. I heard their feet pick up pace a bit more and their panting was rough.
Finally the bull made contact with me, and as planned I caught it by the horns. Despite the bulls speed I had stopped it completely. I heard it's gears spinning and clinking rapidly. Letting my right hand off it's horn but keeping my left hand grip firm, the bull was still completely unable to move. Definitely not for lack of trying though by the looks of things. I raised my right hand, palm aimed at its neck.
I hope I don't overdo this...
The neck snapped clean off the rest of its body. The heavy bronze remains fell to the ground with a loud thud. The neck and head still in my grasp by the horn I held.
I dropped the head and looked at everyone...who looked and felt awestruck. On the bright side, no one got hurt. And on the arguably less bright side, I'm completely fine. Which is definitely not a normal thing for demigods to see after this.
Does my shirt at...I'm not wearing one. Naturally. I forgot to put one on after rolling out of bed.
"Everyone okay?" I asked looking around, trying to seem very out of breath. Didn't work. Shocker.
"Y...yeah." A camper said.
I nodded and looked from him to the cyclops who also looked mostly okay. Clarisse, not as okay but mostly unharmed.
"Good. Um...anyone seen Andrew?"
The silence was unbearably uncomfortable. In fact all I got was a finger pointing to the far left of the field. I followed the invisible line and sure enough I saw Andrew.
He was looking at me...feeling extremely proud, hopefully of me. However there was also a feeling of dread and uncertainty. I'm guessing regarding what was going to happen next. The dread was mixed with overprotectiveness though.
By large, the silence alone told me no one knew how to react.
"Thank you for the help," Tyson said awkwardly after a while.
"Yeah. Thank you for taking care of the other one. And you Clarisse for helping me with this one."
"Uhuh." She nodded still in shock.
"Soooo um who's going to ask the obvious?" A camper asked nodding to me, judging by the looks, namely the moon on her shirt, she's one of Artemis' kids.
I saw Percy, Annabeth, Grover, and Andrew all very very subtly gulp. No one else seemed to notice though.
"I guess me?" Another girl stepped forward, one of Athena's kids. Naturally. "What're you?"
Oh boy...well I don't need clairvoyance to have known this talk was gonna happen eventually. Deep breath Jess, deep deep breath. And exhale. Aaaaaaannnnddddd here goes.
"My real or old name rather, is Issusius. But I'd really really rather be called Jesse. And uh I'm one of the original Titans. Specifically the Titan of Bonds, Emotions, and Healing." I heard a loud mixture of gasps and murmuring. The emotional reactions...mostly fear after the shock had passed. "I hope it's obvious, but uh I'm not here to hurt anyone. I didn't even have my memories until a few weeks ago. Point is, I mean no harm." I held my hands up, hopefully reinforcing my words. They mostly seemed to be more at ease now...that's a good start I guess. Means some of them are able to take me somewhat at my word. Regardless of the situation though, I'm really really REALLY not a fan of all the eyes and attention on me. "So um yeah...I'm...I'm gonna go over there now," I said awkwardly as I pointed to where Andrew was and started making my way over. I felt all the eyes on me as I walked despite my own sight being currently amazed by the ground, refusing to look up. All the emotions too that they were feeling was a bit overwhelming as well. Okay okay...focus Jesse. Focus on Andrew.
"I think that went kinda well?" Andrew said with a awkward grin as i finally made it to his side.
"I hope so," I mumbled quietly.
"Hey hey, for someone that hates being the center of attention, you did pretty well."
"You okay man?" Grover said walking over. Slowly followed by Annabeth and Percy. "Looked rough for you."
"He'll be alright," Andy answered in my place. Adding in a smile for reassurance. "Probably just needs some time to decompress yeah?" He added as he looked down at me. His left arm draped around my neck, holding me into him. I simply nodded ever so slightly, my back partially to everyone.
"Okay, well you want us to walk back with you?" Annabeth asked, Andrew looked at me.
"Yeah, I'd like that. Thank you."
"Yeah. We got your back bro," Grover said, looking to the others. Annabeth and Percy both nodded in agreement.
"Thanks."
Andrew gently pulled me by my hand towards the cabin with the other 3 in tow. After we made it there I looked back at Percy, something's bothering him.
"Hey Jesse can I have a word?"
"Mhm. What's up?"
"It's what Luke told me before he set the scorpion on me. He said the Titans will rise again soon, and that a new golden age is about to be ushered in."
"So he's working with the bad side of my family then. Does he know about me?"
"I don't think so. And hopefully that secret doesn't get out anymore than it already has. But Jesse, with that information coming to light sooner or later for better or worse...you're going to have it very rough. So make sure you're taking care of yourself. Okay?"
"Yeah. I will. Thank you for the concern Percy."
"Anytime. We'll see you around."
"Jesse I'll keep an ear out for you. On the campers I mean, make sure you're in the know," Grover said and I nodded, a small smile on my face.
"Appreciate it. And if you 3 need anything give me a call. Or with your permission, I can do what I did with Andrew."
"What's that?" Annabeth asked.
"Create a kind of link if you will. Connects our emotions, let's me know when someone is in distress. Also helps me locate and get to you faster. Or if you'd prefer I can do a group one between all 5 of us. It's not permanent, any of us can severe it at anytime."
"Can others sense or identify this?"
"No. This ability is unique to me."
"Could be useful." Annabeth said. "Even still, I think I'm going to have to get back to you on that."
"Same here."
"Yeah."
Grover and Percy said agreeing with Annabeth.
"Yeah for sure," I nodded, giving them a wave as I and Andrew went inside.
I grabbed a shirt from my bag and put it on before turning and looking at Andrew.
"Sooo my dad is coming to get us tomorrow afternoon. Take us back to my home till camp starts back up again."
I paused for a few seconds after hearing that.
"I don't know if going with you outside of camp is a good idea anymore...For right now at least." I said and and he nodded.
"Yeah. I get why you'd think that...I do. Do you want me stay here with you then?"
"I mean yeah obviously. But I don't want you to stop your life just for me. You have your father out there like you said. Maybe some more family too right? You should go see them. I'll be here when you get back."
"Promise?"
I gently took his hands in mine, looking him in the eye and kissed him slowly and softly. "Promise. And if you take too long I'll come get you. Just be safe is all I ask."
"I will."
"I love you Andy."
"Love you too Jess."
