Chapter twenty eight
Harold, James and Evelyn shivered slowly, trying to hide the fear within.
That color that flickered in his eyes before did same again. And I'm sure this time that it was red.
He said to them, "I swear when I'm outta this bond, you'd regret messing with me."
Then that was when my second chick popped into the picture, Edna. She clicked her fingers, opening a dimensional portal under the muse with a scar, Harold.
The sensitive muse fell right through it and ended up in... I'm not sure where that crazy girl opened the other end to. That was another bond weakened. I was guessing Marshall could handle the rest on his own. But Kuma did that for him. With three muse bonds out, Marshall was now vulnerable to the repulsion the idol gave. Slowly, my muse was pushed backwards by this force until he was entirely free from the remaining two links.
And by then, the three muses we sent away teleported back to us, ready to be beaten again. They seemed mad.
Marshall smiled at his sister daringly and danced sweetly. She was ready for a beat down, cracking her knuckles with anger. She faced Alfred, walking up to him and saying some things to him that seemed like a plan. Marshall raised his brows and flowed accordingly.
Since he couldn't get to me due to the repulsion, I went to him. He smiled at me and patiently waited. Then he took his glare and faced Amaya again. I could tell dislike was an understatement for what he felt for her.
"What about us?" Fred wondered with a childlike tone.
Kella went into a realm of thinking, feeling there was still a possibility that they could fight that repulsion.
After watching Kuma for a while, she smiled and said, "If we can get strength more that this, I suppose we might be able to resist it."
"And how exactly do we do that, " Chris asked with a tone of hope.
The smart one was thinking again. Sometimes I felt she was a very relevant part of our team, helping us at times like this.
Then she got an answer, "Normally, an outflow of emotion can make people do things that they usually don't. If a muse and his host reaches this level, a higher ability can be attained."
That made total sense. I mean normally I suck at races. But when my dog had rabies and chased after me... Chee you should have seen me jump over a car. I was all fierce and fast like shit. Speaking of fierce, I turned to Marshall who had been quietly staring at his sister all along. He was terribly angered, remembering everything he had gone through because of her. Something was forming in his eyes. I remember seeing a spark of red before. But right now, the color had  spread round the whole of his pupil. I was familiar with blue glowy eyes, not red.
Was it because he was angry? At that, I remembered what Kella was talking about; an outflow of emotion can make us do things that we usually don't.
I asked her, "Like what Marshall is feeling right now?"
They faced him as well. He seemed determined to chop her head off. I mean he was literally seeing red.
Kella sighed hard and replied, "Yup. Just like that. All that anger and hatred combined. It's called muse max."
I had a dirty smile on. Facing the whole clan, I snickered unbelievably, "Does this mean he can make it past the repulsion?"
Clinton answered the question instead, "I think you'll have to reach there too. It's about both muse and host."
Me! How!
Kella read my confusion, "I guess just like him. Anger!"
Oh I was far from angry. And that meant the crazy muse max thing had to wait.
The fallen seemed fed up with us making those waves that Kuma hated. And all I could guess was they were hatching plans to end us completely so they could comfortably make their wish. We were not going to make that easy were we.
But now I felt no emotion. And there was no muse max without it.
I sighed, "Sorry guys. I can't just force anger outta me."
My muse heard me say that and turned angrily, walking to me with his arms across his chest.
Oh I knew that look. He was gonna make me angry.
He rasped slowly, "Why don't we talk about Sophie."
I frowned in confusion because this was not what I expected, "And what happened to her?"
He plastered on a tempting smirk and replied, "Oh nothing. It's just how you'll agree with me that generally sisters are a pain in the ass."
I had this slight urge to agree which I fought away immediately, "Oh never try to put Sophia and your maniac sister in one place."
He retorted as soon as I stopped, "Oh trust me that's how Amaya started. All quiet and all. But now she is a mega villain."
"And what's that supposed to mean, " I  walked so close to him that I almost flinched at the color of his eyes, "Talking about my sis like that in my presence. We both know that she is better than Amaya would ever be."
He raised a brow, "You sure. Cos she's a snake if you ask me. Imagine she never even remembers you until she needs something. I mean that's what snakes do. She's a potential evil muse, waiting to die. Why don't we kill her before she reaches there. Just after I'm done with Amaya. It's also possible she faked that whole crying scene just to get you to argue with me. I mean are you sure she ain't even part of the fallen."
I looked him straight in the eye when he made the last speech.
Raising a finger up to his red eyes, I growled, " Say one more word about Sophie and I'll..."
"You'll what, " he teased, "pinch me?"
I sighed and closed my eyes, laughing angrily, "You've succeeded, haven't you."
Marshall grinned almost immediately, "Now that's the anger I'm looking for."
Before I went back to my senses, my muse possessed me. We had both reached Max somehow because he was the only one who knew how to anger me.
The feeling was...
I'm not sure but it was glorious. I was above everything. So this was muse max. The feeling where you behaved slightly drunk because you were intoxicated with emotion. I could go crazy for all I knew.
My stare was a beautiful shade of deep red. I smiled and twisted my neck.
If Chris unfortunately reached something like this, I was going to pity the fallen. I mean he was born evil.
He snarled, "Oh my... That energy."
I yawned and started walking to the idol. But just before then, I faced my friends, "I'd try to buy y'all time before you reach max as well. In the mean time, Clara dear...."
Clara eyed me with a smile, "Yes baby."
"You are the definition of a thorn in the skin," I said truthfully, "so do your magic on them. Take them to max mi amor."
I bent down to drop a kiss on her lips when Fred said to me, "Marshall can you just..."
I grinned knowingly and turned away, quitting my little act, "Fine."
"Be careful Marshall, "Clara said while I walked away.
I heard another feminine voice shriek, "Keep Edward safe." Angela.
It was funny how a single being like me had two chicks cos I was possessed.
I nodded and faced the bad guys. While I approached the idol, I slowed down my steps, trying to study if I could fight the repulsive field. I expected something at least, if not a repulsion. At that, I stopped for a while when I reached the invisible force field. Nothing happened.
Gently, I arched a knee to keep on walking, still no sign of repulsion.
Laughing my ass out, I turned my strides into a half run. It was exciting. Muse Max was the best. I mean I didn't even feel a thing.
Studying the fallen, they seemed confused and afraid, wondering how Kuma wasn't repelling me.
"He's reached Max, " I heard Harold say after looking at my eyes.
Amaya gawked slightly and it took a while to realize that the brave one was scared. No pun.
She waved her hand and I noticed a swarm of men in tuxedos come to me. Were they supposed to stop me orrr...?
Kuma was fast awakening, and it was then I noticed Amaya's reason for sending these men. To buy her time so she could make the wish. Well I was still going to make it to her, no matter the number of garbage she sends to fight me.
I stopped walking and studied the new set of men. I'm serious, they were new. Like look at those suits. Obviously I hadn't beaten them before. Suddenly, every single one of them got out a rifle. I didn't know why I found that funny. Who ends a ghost with guns on planet Earth.
But before I could plan for anything, the leader of the set gave order, "On my count. One.. two... Three... Fire!!"
And fire they did.
