Recap:
"What's going on?" Sekizan and Hachioji finally noticed the scene and walked up to (Y/n) who had been watching everything. "They're teaching Iwashimizu on how to be more confident, I think." she answered a bit unsurely at this point.
"You should teach him, Sekizan." Hachioji jokingly suggested and the captain was confused on what he meant, making his two close friends laugh at his reaction.
...
"Let the second half begin!"
On with Chapter 16:
3RD PERSON POV
The second half started with Matsuo doing the kick off.
Sagami successfully caught the ball and immediately ran towards their goal.
Iwashimizu missed a tackle, but before Sagami could go too far, the blond reached out and tapped the player's heel to make him trip. Keeping a tight grip on the ball, his fall didn't cause a knock-on and his teammate grabbed the ball away before continue running.
(Y/n)'s gaze was going to follow the ball's movement until she noticed from the corner of her eyes that Iwashimizu was standing against the opponent he had tripped in the stance that Gion had taught(?) him. Meanwhile, the Sagami player was looking at him confusedly at the stiff and blushing figure.
(Y/n) couldn't help but to let out a small laugh before reluctantly turning her attention back towards the game.
"That's not the right time to use that..." she heard Gion say in the background.
...
Currently, Sagami seemed to be able to pass through Jinko easily as they didn't stop the ball from moving forward. They dodged almost every attempt to get tackled and passed before the ball could fall with them.
At one point, Sekizan had tackled an opponent a second after the ball was passed. It seemed like he had tackled so hard that the Sagami player was clutching his side, even after the try and conversion kick were scored.
"Taku's pretty fired up, huh." (Y/n) muttered to herself before writing down some comments onto her clipboard.
His streak still wasn't over as he continued to bring down the opponents with all his might despite his teammates feeling the fatigue and were barely keeping up.
"This is turning into a one-sided game." Yoshida pointed out to provoke the coach, and the manager, again, but neither gave a comment and continued to focus on the game.
Sagami passed the ball quickly between each other but it bounced out of a receiver's hand. To save it, another player tried to kick the ball before it could bounce too far. However, instead of his foot kicking the ball, it made contact with Sekizan who had dived in to catch the ball.
"Ugh-!" Sekizan's groan could be heard across the field and the people who had witnessed what had happened widened their eyes in shock.
"Sekizan!" "Taku!" Hachioji ran towards his best friend while (Y/n) quickly grabbed the first aid kit and a towel and ran towards him.
"Stop! Stop!" the referee called out to the players in urgency as he stood near Sekizan who was still on the ground. (Y/n) knelt down beside him and Hachioji gently pushed him by the shoulder to look up so she could tend to the injury, but he didn't move from his position.
"H-Hey, are you okay?" the player that had accidentally kicked Sekizan stuttered as he too was horrified by his actions.
Waiting for a few more seconds, Hachioji and (Y/n) took a step back to give space when they felt their captain move. He reached under his jaw to take off his headgear and took it off to reveal some blood dripping out. (Y/n) took the towel and reached up to press it gently against the wound.
