Chapter One: Aboarding the Jet

"You sure you don't want me going with you guys?" asked Luca.

"No Luca. If I need you, I'll call. Besides, I got Ivan and Axle coming with. I need you to stay behind with Cardo a little longer and dig up more info from Nina and Dominic on Ryder." said Mateo.

It's been about 8 months since the kidnapping happened and it was about damn time we made a move and go after Ryder. Let me tell you; Mateo has not left my side, not once. Most nights I wake up screaming because of the horrible experiences I've endured with the kidnapping. Mateo would be right by my side, comforting me at night. Probably the first 2 weeks straight I've woken up screaming and dripping in sweat with the horrible nightmares of the evening I was kidnapped. Some nights I even cried. Eventually, it became less and less.

He tried to talk to me a few times about seeking a shrink or therapist, but I always told him that I didn't need it. I'm not crazy, just a minor set back is what I like to call it. He thinks I'm suffering from PTSD.

"Mia, you sure you'll be okay?" asked Dad.

"I'm sure." I said as I crossed my arms in front of my chest.

Mateo turned to me and grabbed my shoulders gently. "Baby, you seriously don't have to go through this. You'd be safer here." He said.

"I know Mateo, but I'm not going to sit around and play victim. He kidnapped your mother and I. He's beaten me. I'll be safer knowing that I'm the one who's put the bullet through his skull." I said as I turned away and boarded the jet.

Mateo sighed.

"What can I say? Like father like daughter." Said Luca.

Mateo smirked, "You can definitely say that again."

"Take care Moretti, and take care of my princess." said Luca.

"Don't worry Luca, I'll risk my life for her." He said.

Mateo reached in his pocket and pulled out a little box. He looked at it hesitantly and looked at Luca. Luca raised an eyebrow. Mateo opened a box that revealed a gorgeous rectangular, emerald diamond ring with a halo. Luca looked surprised.

"You know, I actually took one of the emeralds from the butterfly necklace and got this ring custom made. I just didn't know when would be the right time to give this to her." Said Mateo.

Luca smirked. "If you're indirectly asking for my permission..—" Luca began.

"—It's not that I'm asking for your permission Luca.. I'm going to marry Mia." Said Mateo.

Luca put his hand on Mateo's shoulder. "I trust that she's in good hands." Said Luca.

Mateo shook his head and smiled looking down. He looked back up and smiled, "She definitely is."

The flight was about 6 hours long. I slept on and off for most of it. Every time I looked at Mateo, it seems like he hasn't slept at all. "You okay babe?" I asked.

"Of course my love." He said.

"Sir, we're about to land." Said one of the co-pilots. Mateo nodded.

As we landed, we got out the jet and made our way to a black SUV and hopped in. The drive took about 45 minutes until we pulled up to a beautiful mansion. I stepped out the vehicle and took in the scenery.

"Hello Mr. Moretti and Ms. Salvatore." Greeted a elderly woman at the front of the mansion. I followed Mateo by his side.

"Hola Mariela, espero que todo esté bien?" (Hello Mariela, hope all is well?) Said Mateo. I looked at him. I never knew that Mateo knew Spanish so well.

"Sí Mr. Moretti! Your Español is magnífico Mateo!" She said happily.

He smiled. "Mia, meet Mariela. She takes care of my parents home when we're gone." He said.

Mariela comes closer to me and grabs my chin, gently lifting my head. "She's definitely, very beautiful Mateo; muy hermosa." she said. I blushed. Mateo smiled.

Mariela gave us the keys to the home and went on her way. We walked in with Ivan and Axle behind us. I looked around to take in the beauty of the mansion inside.

"Shiiiiit, when was the last time we've been here?" Asked Ivan.

"Beats me, we haven't been here since we were probably 16." Said Axle.

"Remember we aren't on vacation men." Reminded Mateo. Ivan and Axle nodded.

"Did you managed to get Ryders coordinates?" Asked Ivan.

"Cardo and I did about 3 weeks ago." Said Axle. "We just didn't want to make a move too soon just in case he decided to run." He continued.

*BEEP, BEEP!*

Axle took his phone out of his pocket and read his text message.  "And speaking of which— Cardo said he still seems to be where he's at." Said Axle.

"We move out in two days. We need to lay low for awhile. No need to go out to town for anything, I don't want any of the White Snakes to know that we're here." Said Mateo.

"—Or what's left of The White Snakes." Added Ivan.

"I wouldn't be so quick to judge; for all we know, Ryder could have a whole army around here. Remember, we gave that motherfucker an 8 MONTH vacation instead of chasing after him." I said.

"Mia's right. If we're doing this, we're doing this right with a plan in place and not walking into this war blindfolded." Said Mateo.
