Chapter Twenty-Three: It Ends Here

We got to an empty field where stood an old factory not far from where I stayed. The grounds seemed to have Ryder, Donavan and a bunch of other men.

"Dad?" I called out.

"Hey baby girl. What are you doing here?" He said as he hugged me.

"I couldn't let you guys have all the fun." I said smiling.

Along with him were my brother and the rest of dad's crew along with Mateo's. We loaded up our weapons before heading out.

"Ready?" Asked Mateo looking at my dad. He nodded.

Mateo looked at me. I nodded in confirmation.

"We end this. Now." He said.

We went in and started taking the men down one by one. It was a war. A blood bath. Everyone was fighting and even me. I was already getting tired. Pregnancy sure does do things to your body. One of their men tried to attack me from behind. I threw him over my shoulder and he landed flat on the ground on his back before I shot him. I heaved as I tried to catch my breath with my hands resting on my knees. Mateo looked at me with worry.

Before I knew it, someone grabbed me from behind, chocking me from the back and putting a gun to my head. It was Ryder.

"MIA!" Yelled Mateo. Everyone stopped.

"HAHA!" Ryder laughed out loud while piercing the barrel of the gun deeper to my temple.

"Put your weapons down NOW! Otherwise I will blow her pretty little brains out!" He demanded.

The look on Mateo face was not pleasant at all. His expression and eyes were dark as a storm. He was ready to kill everyone and everything his path. Mateo took a step forward.

"Nuh uh, I wouldn't do that if I were you Moretti." Said Ryder with a devilish smile.

"Don't think I won't pull this trigger." He continued.

It was really now or never. I'm done running, chasing, fighting. I've had it and I'll end this, NOW. I swiftly and aggressively elbowed Ryder at his ribs. He let go of me and yelped in pain. I punched him, breaking his nose and he drops the gun. Everything and time seemed to stand still at that moment.

I quickly grabbed the gun and shot him in the shoulder. He stumbled backwards. I shot him in the stomach, and then once in the chest. Ryder fell to the ground, holding his wounds. He was breathing heavily and coughed out blood. I stood over him as I watched him suffer. He smiled.

"What are you waiting for? Do it. Pull the trigger." He said as he laughed through the pain.

I looked at him in disgust.

"No matter what happens to me, I'll make sure that you end up with the same fate as mine. See you in Hell." He said.

"Well then in that case, you'll just have to wait for me." I said.

I pulled the trigger and shot Ryder in the head. Everyone stood in silence.

"Well, there goes our intel." Said Axle. Ivan smacked him in the chest. Cardo shook his head. I looked over to see Donavan frozen. The others followed. Mateo held up his gun ready to kill Donavan.

"No wait." I called out. Everyone looked at me.

"You want your intel? He can be it." I suggested. I walked towards Donavan and put the gun up to his chin.

"And you better start talking or so help-me-God I will lay you out like your friend over there with no exceptions." I said. The others grabbed him.

"I like this side of Mia." Said Mateo as he kissed my forehead. I laughed. I began to feel dizzy.

"Mia?" Called out Axle.

"Mia are you okay?" Asked Carlos.

Everything I've heard started to sound so far away. My vision began to blur and I was fighting to see clearly. Before I knew it, the world faded around me.

I woke up to see that I was in the same room I was once in the day that Mateo proposed to me. I woke up rubbing the back of my head.

"Shit, not again." I groaned. My eyes widened in realization. The baby.

"My baby!—" I said, freaking out.

"—Mia, take it easy—" said my Dad trying to calm me down. I tried getting up.

"But my baby!—" I cried out frantically.

"HONEY, the baby is fine. You're fine." Reassured my dad, gently laying me back down.

"You were exhausted. Why didn't you tell us you were pregnant? I would've never allowed Mateo to let you put yourself and the baby at risk." He said stroking my hair.

"I insisted on going dad, please don't be upset at Mateo." I said.

"That was a stupid fucking thing, but I can see why you wanted to." He said as he chuckled.

"Where is Mateo?" I asked.

"He said he had to go out to do some errands or something. He'll be back shortly." Said Dad.

I laid back down in a sigh of relief. Mateo walked in with a bunch of shopping bags in his hand.

"Hey Luca, which theme and colour do you think would suit a baby shower, gender reveal—" he said as he walked in and froze. I couldn't help but chuckle and my dad shook his head.

"I'll leave you to it." Said Dad before exiting the room. Mateo looked a little embarrassed.

"Baby." He said as he dropped the things and hugged me tightly.

"Buying stuff for a gender reveal already, huh? You know that we don't even know the gender of the baby yet, right?" I said as I smiled.

"Sorry, I'm new to this." He said as he blushed.

"I'm sorry? But is Mateo Vincenzo Moretti blushing?" I teased him.

"Ayooo, relax on the middle name." He said playfully.

We intertwined our fingers.

"You know, I'm 10 weeks." I said. His eyes widened.

"Te— 10 weeks????" He said with surprise. I nodded at him.

"So we're really doing this huh?" He said.

"Yup." I replied.

He placed his hand on my belly and looked at me smiling.

"Well whatever happens, just know that I will try to do my absolute best to protect the both of you. You both, are my biggest priorities." He said.
