Today's the day that I come out of the hospital. Being stuck in that shit hole for the past couple of days has been absolute hell. It's been nice having all the drivers visit and being able to have a laugh with them. It's a real shame I'm not travelling to Monaco with them for the next race. Monaco is one of my favourite races along with Baku, Spa, Silverstone (my home race) and Monza.
Tell you what, I have barely eaten since I've been in this place. The food they give you tastes like crap. Honestly, I'm glad that I either called my brother, George or Alex to go and get me a McDonalds, so at least I had something decent to eat. On day 3 of being in the hospital, my brother and George were out for meeting with their teams, so I called Alex to go and get me a 2 Chicken and Bacon mayo burgers, large fries and large coke because lunch was mince and mash, which look like something I don't even want to mention. Alex stayed with me as I was eating, there was an unexpected visitor, as the door opened I was taking a bite of my burger, I made eye contact with my trainer Ryan, who was literally death starting me and I just took a bite of the burger to piss him off, which me and Alex found hilarious. It's a good thing he let me off because he knew that hospital food wasn't the best.
Arriving at Barcelona El-Prat Airport, with George because Lando flew home this morning because he was heading to Glastonbury to spend some time with the family. The family know that I am staying with George for the week leading up to the next race. I'm just happy I get to spend a week with George. I just wish Rosie was here to keep my company whilst he was off to the race. It's been about 2 months since I've heard from her but I understand why she can't always call me. She's doing an amazing job protecting her country and it makes me extremely proud to be her best friend.
George and myself head over to the check-in desk and check our bags in for our flight to London Luton. We were going to fly to Heathrow but George flew out of Luton on the way out to Barcelona, so that's where his car is parked. Our bags are now all checked in and we head through security and make our way into the departure lounge.
"Do you want anything to eat or drink darling?" George asked me. "Can you get me a cheese and ham sandwich and bottle of water please babe". George nodded in response and gave a kiss on the cheek and head over to the coffee shop. As George went to the coffee shop, I stared out of the window looking at the planes, taking off and landing. As I was looking out the window, I could hear my phone ringing in the front zip pocket of my rucksack and take it out to see that Rosie's mum Claire is calling me.
AJ: Hello?
Claire: Hello AJ. How are you?
AJ: I'm good thank you Claire how are you?
*The line went quiet for about 30 seconds*
AJ: Claire what's wrong? What's happening? You're scaring me?
Claire: Ermm.. Rosie's Chief officers called me this morning. I'm so sorry AJ but Rosie was killed in action 72hours ago
*I froze in my spot and looked at George who was walking back from the coffee shop*
AJ: No no no she can't be dead Claire, she can't. She promised a girls night when she get home. I have hardly any other friends that are girls. She was meant to come with me to one of my race weekends as well. What am I supposed to do now that my best friend is gone?
Claire: Focus on your racing, that is what she would want you to do. She'll always be watching over you AJ. She is so proud of you and what you have achieved in your life and she would want you to move on a be happy. Please let Lando and the family know. Take care of yourself AJ.
*The phone then went dead*
(Please only watch from 39seconds to 52seconds, as that's the only part that is relevant to this story. Also, ignore the baby in the background)
