Saturday came and went pretty quick, with myself topping the timesheet in the practice session. I was also informed that Mazepin was given a 5 place grid penalty for Sunday's races, which I was pleased about because I was fuming about what happened but I had calmed down thanks to the help of my brother and boyfriend. I had an amazing qualifying. I GOT POLE POSITION! I mean getting pole at one of my favourite tracks means the world to me. I'm just looking forward to my home race and Spa. I've always enjoyed the Belgian Grand Prix... Well, I am half Belgian.
After the practice on Saturday, I had to attend a couple of meetings to talk about strategies for the race and debrief on the qualifying sessions. God, I hate debriefs. They are long and boring and you get very bored, very quickly. But luckily it was only a short meeting, so I could head back to the hotel, have some dinner and get a good nights sleep because dealing with a grumpy racer is never a good idea.
Sunday morning, my alarm was going off and I let out a loud groan, which unfortunately woke George up. I sat up in bed and leaned against the headboard and looked at my sleepy boyfriend. "Morning sleepy. We need to get up. It's race day, we have to get to the track. My race is in two and I want you to be in the garage with Lando" I said to George. On that note, George groaned, got out of bed and went into the bathroom to have a shower. I was already showered and dressed and ready to go before, his lazy arse was out of bed.
Around 45 minutes later, we both finally left the hotel room and we both practically ran to the track. Upon arrival at the track, I literally scanned my passed and jumped over the barriers and ran straight to my driver room, with George in hot pursuit of me. As soon as I opened my driver room door, I saw my brother sat on the sofa, looking at me dead in the eyes. "Where the hell have you been AJ?" Lando said. "Blame George, he didn't want to get his arse out of bed this morning, so that's why I'm late" I said and then turned around to see an out of brethe George, stood right behind be. "Right boys, get out I need to get changed, so clear off and wait for me over in my garage. I'll be there in about 15 minutes" I said as I was shooing both boys out of my room.
After getting changed into my racing gear, I left my driver room and walk over to my garage to do any last minute prep ready for the race. As I entered the garage, George and Lando walked up to me and brought me into a group hug, which I definitely needed before this race. After pulling away from the hug, Andy spoke to me about my sector times and which turns on the track i could improve on, but he know that I will improve throughout the race.
I continued with my pre race routine of doing my handshake with Liam and wishing him luck, going to the toilet and then getting in the car, ready to head out to the grid. I knew this is going to be a bit of a tricky race, but my brother, boyfriends and the entire HiTech team all have faith in me, to see me on that podium today. One of the engineers gave me clearance to leave the garage and I made may way out, down the pit lane and onto the track to make my way round to the grid.
Time passed rather quickly and all I was doing was staring at the lights, when I hear the delightful voice of Andy in my ears.
Andy: Radio Check AJ
AJ: Copy loud and clear Andy
Andy: T minus 2 minutes till lights outs
AJ: Copy that
As I'm looking at the lights, each light is now coming up red and all five lights are now red and they went out and it was Lights out and away we go. I got a really good start to the race, I was literally straight of the mark and made way down to turn one and pulled it off beautifully, as I did on all the pretty tight corners. I bet George and Lando and all the other Formula One drivers are cheering me on, because I bet you, Lando invited them to come and sit in my garage. James won't mind.
