I made a cup of coffee and sat at the dining table. Corey was still in Europe. I missed him very much. I can't wait to tell him what's been happening for almost ten months. I was tired of it now. I wanted it to end. I finished drinking my coffee and got up. I put the cup inside the sink and walked into the living room. A few minutes later, I heard my phone ringing. It was Corey calling me.

"Hello, baby. How's it going?"

"Hey, Kaylee. It's going pretty well. I miss you so damn much." His voice sounded chirpy.

"I miss you too, baby. Corey, I have something very important to tell you when you get back from Amsterdam." I said nervously.

There was silence. "Okay, beautiful. Are you pregnant?"

"No, of course not." I chuckled. "I saw your performance. It was beyond awesome. I wish that I was there with you."

"Thank you. I wish that you were here too. How's Terri doing?"

"She's fine," I replied as I turned on the tv. "I spoke to her yesterday. I told her that you were in Amsterdam."

"Cool. I'll give her a call tomorrow." He said.

"That would be nice. She'd like that." I said as I heard my doorbell ring. "Corey, someone's at the door. Can you call me back before your next performance?" I asked as I went to open the door.

"Yes, beautiful. I'll do that. I love you."

"I love you also. Bye."

Two detectives were standing on my doorstep.

"Hello, Miss Van Gotthard. I'm detective Charles and this is my partner detective Stable. We're here to ask you a few questions regarding Arivana Adams." The short one with the mustache said to me.

"You may come in," I said as I stepped aside and motioned to them with my hand.

I led them to my living room. They sat on the sofa beside each other.

"Ms. Van Gatthard, we spoke with two eyewitnesses who said that they saw you arguing with Mrs. Adams before she was murdered. What were you arguing about?" The female who was detective Stable asked.

"Ari and I never argued. That's not true." I'm wondering who could've given them that information.

"Mrs. Adams was six weeks pregnant when she was murdered." She said.

My mouth was agape as I looked at her. "I don't believe that. Ari was not pregnant. If she was, she would've told me. She and I were very close."

"Well, it seems that you two weren't close enough. The autopsy report confirmed that she was pregnant." Detective Charles said. "We also receive information that your boyfriend, popular R and B sensation, Triger, was having an affair with Mrs. Adams and that she was pregnant with his child."

"That's ridiculous! Nothing was going on between Corey and Ari! Whoever gave you that information is lying!" I yelled as I sat on the chair. "Have you questioned the housekeeper, Monica? She was the one who found Ari's body. She called me and told me that she found Ari dead."

"We did." Detective Stable responded. "Ms. Moss had an airtight alibi."

I shook my head and rolled my eyes.

"So, that's why you were arguing with your cousin because she was pregnant with your boyfriend's baby?" Detective Charles asked as he wrote something down on his notepad.

"As I said before, detective, I was never arguing with Ari. If Ari was pregnant, it was Jonathan's baby, not Corey's. Corey and Ari were friends. They never had a sexual relationship." I snapped at him.

"Where were you on the night Mrs. Adams was murdered?" Detective Stable asked.

"I was home with Corey," I answered.

"When was the last time that you saw Mrs. Adams?" She asked as she looked at me.

"At the benefit concert. Detectives, we're done here. I need to go get ready for work." I told them as I got up and went to open the door.

"Thanks for your time, Ms. Van Gotthard. We'll keep in touch."

I didn't say a word to him. I slammed the door because I was very upset.

"What do you want?" I asked the bastard who had turned my life into a nightmare.

"I need you to stay out of what doesn't concern you. I'm only keeping you alive because you're my meal ticket. Take that as a warning, bitch."

"What are you talking abou-" The line went dead.

I was wondering what the hell he was talking about.

Oh, shit. He saw me watching him and his sister, Monica, at the restaurant the other day. Now that my mom was tucked away in Atlanta and he couldn't find her, I wasn't scared of him anymore. I went to get ready for work.

Monica's pov

I banged on aunt Sally's door. I need to know what she said to Kaylee yesterday. I would hate to hurt her like I did her precious little daughter, Melonie.

"Monica, what a pleasant surprise. It's been so long. Come on in." She said as she hugged me.

I didn't hug her back.

"How are you doing? You've turned into a lovely young lady."

I looked at her and rolled my eyes. "I'm doing good. How are you doing?"

"I'm okay. I'm happy to see you."

I'm not happy to see you. I thought. "Do you remember a short lady that came to see you yesterday? She was white with black hair."

She nodded slowly. "Yes, her name was Lydia. Lydia Spectra."

"What did she want?" I asked her.

"Oh, she said that you two were old friends and she wanted to know if I had any contact information for you."

I knew that she was lying. "What did you tell her?" I asked her as I took up a knife out of the drawer inside the kitchen.

"I told her that I didn't have any contact information for you." She stuttered as she looked at the knife that I was holding in my hand. "How did you know that she came here?"

"I saw her today and she told me that she came here looking for me."

"Oh, that's wonderful." She said.

"How's Melonie doing?"

"She was killed in a hit and run last year." She told me with sadness in her eyes.

"It's sad that your precious daughter had to die that way. She was a little spoilt stuck-up bitch. She deserved what she got." I said with a smug grin on my face.

"How dear you say that about my daughter. She was a nice girl and she was always looking out for you. She didn't deserve to die that way. Whoever did it was evil." She said as she touched her chest and started breathing heavily.

"Oh, please, Aunt Sally. You and she were only looking out for yourselves. You only took me in because you wanted to turn me into your housemaid."

"That's enough, Monica. Get out of my house."

"You don't have to tell me twice," I said with a smirk on my face. "Oh, and before I go, that bitch that came here yesterday, her name isn't Lydia Spectra. She's Kaylee Van Gotthard. If she comes back here again and you open your big mouth and say anything to her about me, my brother, my parent's death, or anything else that happened in my past, you'll be sorry." I put down the knife on the counter.

She didn't utter a word. She only stood there staring at me.

"I'll see myself out," I said as I took up an apple off the table and walked out of her living room.
