Some days after, (Name) was brought to Mephisto himself accompanied by her good old acquaintance Lewin and newest friend Ryuji. After her father admitted everything to Lightning without even showing the tiniest sign of shame, they decided it was for the better to bring the informations to the superior director himself. (Name) was wearing her favourite casual wear and Bon the typical uniform of True Cross Academy. They were still on school grounds after all, but in a situation like this nothing could be more insignificant for the girl.
They were led into the pink castle by the demon's butler Belial who greeted them like they were the most noble people on the planet - it must be purely out of habit.
The girl silently stared at the ceiling as the four of them were walking towards Mephisto's office. It was a beautiful day outside, the sun was shining brightly and helped everyone realize the world still had good things to it. Bon glanced at her from the corner of his eye until he faced her fully. They hadn't spoken much since the incident which wasn't necessarily a bad thing - the poor girl had to go through a lot, after all. Ryuji of course knew that and blamed his own selfishness as the trigger of her silence. Even after everything, it turned out she was as unreadable as before.
Finally, they reached the director's office and it was time for Belial to say his goodbyes. Before they entered the office though, (Name) carefully tugged the fabric over Ryuji's elbow which made his head spin around fast.
He was greeted by a sincere smile - it must have been the most beautiful smile he'd seen from her, so he returned it the best he could. From this moment on, nothing should ever go wrong again.
"Ahh, Lightning! I'm glad you came!" Mephisto greeted them as they walked into the room. "Oh, you've brought Suguro and... wait, is that the librarian's daughter?" It must have been a long time ago when he saw her the last time, too. (Name) gave the male an unsure bow only for Ryuji to stop her with his arm in the middle of the act and shake his head. Like, don't trust him, you don't know what he's up to.
"We came to talk with you about a touchy subject." The demon answered this with a theatrical ‚ooh' and gestured for them to sit down.
"If you're talking about her father, I guess I know about that already. A proper punishment shall await him." There was a dangerous glimpse in that man's eyes that unsettled (Name) in a very strange way. She gave the boy sitting next to her an anxious expression.
Contrary to any expectations, Lewin chuckled sinisterly at the demon's obvious behaviour and crossed his legs. Everyone gave him a confused stare - just where was this awkward conversation headed?
"Tell me Mephisto, did you know he was still doing these attempts? After all, you were the one who proposed them in the first place." The former smile retreated and Lewin once again became very serious. Ryuji and (Name) couldn't fully comprehend what had just gotten out of Lightning's mouth as they were completely in shock. "What?" was the only thing the girl could say right now, so quiet even Bon almost didn't catch it.
"Now, now, Lightning," the demon put up his hands in defense, "I was the one to propose it, but the mere execution of everything hasn't got to do the least with me."
Silence.
"I-," the girl stood up on her shaking feet, "I think I remember you. You said his name was Mephisto?" she gave Lewin a short glance, "Mephisto Pheles?" She took a step closer to the demon's desk who only stared at her with an amused expression. "Your real name is Samael. You are the King of Time and therefore the second strongest of the eight Baal. Isn't that right?" She had her hands balled into fists as she stared at the demon in front of her.
"My, you seem to know a lot about demons even if you're the only human who can't even see them. Such a shame, (Name). You could have been destined for so much more."
"Mephisto, just tell us what you're really after in this one at least," a new voice shouted in and the girl turned around to see Ryuji having stood up as well. The demon snickered briefly before resting his chin on both his hands.
"Let's just say things haven't come along as planned. Anyway, I have to address this situation. Now, if you excuse me, I have much work to do on this one." And there it was, that dangerous glimpse in these deep green eyes again. "Just be glad you won't have to stay down there any longer."
And with these words, the entrance doors flung open widely and a huge burst of wind greeted everyone who was in the office. (Name) obviously wasn't finished with this conversation, but it was no use - the wind almost seemed to drag them out.
So they had to leave now, but luckily it turned out like Mephisto said - she would never have to set foot into the library or the chamber ever again. With bittersweet feelings inside of her, she left the building with a smile on her face. At least she wouldn't have to be alone anymore.
