Chapter 1
Looking at the tree lined road leading towards my home for the next four years Im excited beyond containment. The brochure just did not do this place justice it was absolutely breath taking. Who knew hidden just two hours away from Southampton in the big city sat an oasis, on a lake. I'd never heard of Madison Adams University, but it's ranked with Brown, Oxford, and Yale. I was a studious student, I was ranked number 20 out of 550 kids in my graduating class, I was very active; volunteering, work, sports, and clubs.
When searching for information concerning our family history we found that our great-grandmother wasn't only a business women but also a philanthropist. She had invested in this small school which needed funding and so each year even to this day portions of her estate was and is given to this University and in return any Bloomdy could attend and be educated here as part of her legacy. Coming out of my thoughts I look around. I'm ready for this.
After the ride to the University, and a trip to the mall, Target, Peir One, Bed Bath and Beyond and finally dinner, my family left. My room was littered with everything from new clothes to bedding and I was to tired to get settled. I just really wanted to go to sleep, and that's what I did, sleep!
I heard the loudest noise you could imagine. I sat there on the bed for a minute trying to decided exactly what the noise was and then I heard a knock. I was confused because who could possibly be at the door at this hour. Answering the door I heard shouts saying to leave the building that the fire alarm was pulled. Grabbing my robe, and my phone I tossed Ivan on the bed and left the building with all the other students. Standing out in the brisk night air I couldn't help but think that this had to be a joke.
"Man the ladies are ripe for the pickings out here..."
"Boy you ain't never lied, look at that one."
As I turned my head to see who was talking I just shook my head and leaned against the rail waiting for the all clear. As I was looking at my fb account on my IPhone 6.
I heard "this one could use some help" and the other guy just laughed. I looked at them both thinking I know they weren't talking to me. Then two football players walked by and grunted when looking at me. Now I'm not the prettiest, but I'm sure not the ugliest so I wasn't sure what was going on. I turned my camera towards me and was shocked to see that I'd forgotten that I had put tooth paste on three possible zits on my face and that my green hair rollers could be seen through my cap. Yep, I could use some help I now knew why...
Across town...
"Bishop, I'm hungry and I'm tired, I'm leaving.."
"Hey, Mav wait up".
I stood next to the door of the garage waiting for my man Bishop to catch up, to tired to even care to put on my jacket I slung it across my shoulders as Bishop put on his.
"Where are we going."
"Pancakes, I answered as I walked towards my car thinking about pancakes, yeah it was after 12 midnight but anytime it's a good time for pancakes. I got in my car and Bishop jumped in his car and we pulled out the lot heading to IHOP. The city was buzzing with people out at midnight, but it was the weekend and the clubs, were still going strong. As I pulled up to the light I notice that the car next to me was trying to get my attention.
"Hey, you looking lonely over there want some company."
"Naw, I'm good."
"I'm sure you are. " the women with a bob sitting on the passenger side said as the driver began to laugh. I had to laugh too, women these days had no shame in their game. Don't get me wrong I loved the ladies, but nowadays these women were just too much. The light turned green and I sped off not given the women a second thought.
Pulling into the IHOP Bishop pulled in beside me and next to him was the women from the light. I stepped out of the car, not bothering to grab my jacket or phone. I shook my head. Leave it to Bishop to always make new friends of the female persuasion.
Bishop and I go way back living in the same neighborhood and eating from the same tables sometimes. Bishop was my boy we had been through a lot in our days from the play ground to the come up.
" Yo holla at yah boy for a minute" Bishop yelled.
I walked across the parking lot towards Bishop with boredom and irritation across my face. " You going to play me in front of the ladies" he said. I turned and looked in the direction of the two females standing by the car and chucked thinking, defiantly not my type.
"Bishop, look, I want to eat and sleep I don't have time for all of that over there you feel me. As far as I'm concern I'm good, so sorry man I will not be playing the role of your wing man tonight" I said.
Bishop puts his snap back on his head a looked at his phone sending a quick text to god knows who, then he looked back at me and laughed. "My wing man, when have I ever needed a wing man" Bishop said with a laugh.
I turned and walked back to my car thinking I'm not as hungry as I thought. Getting into my car I drove off, about a mile down Asher blvd. I heard a chime alerting me of a text.
Bishop: for real you leaving your boy...
Mav: Y
Bishop: ?
Looking at my phone I tossed it back onto the passenger seat, my none response was a response. Turning on the radio to the smooth sound of Kenny G coming through loud and clear. I start to relax and my grip on the stirring wheel relaxed as I heading towards home. Pulling into my parking spot I leaned my head against the headrest thinking, its about time to give this foolishness up...
