Pain and Flashlights

Maverick...
The rain is still coming down and we have to figure out what's next. We have blankets from the picnic and we still have plenty of food and water left. The guys and I collected wood to make a fire and to use as light. Avery has been out for the last 3 hours and Mercedes has been concerned since he went to sleep, really hasn't left his side.

It's now well after 8 and the rain still hasn't subsided we can hear the rain rushing down the ridge of where we are. Donavan and Flex walked the cave to look to see how far back it goes and where it leads. They've been gone for more than an hour now and I'm a little concern.

"Excuse me Maverick do you know where my uncle is I'm scared."

"Hey Sydney, it's okay come here. Your uncle is out looking around the cave he'll be back soon, I know you must be tired come let me put you to sleep."

Picking up Sydney I walk around the cave singing her a lullaby until she fell asleep. Using my bag as a pillow I laid her down and covered her with the extra blanket, minutes later Tierra was out like a light right beside her.

Looking around the cave I see the girls talking and the guys talking in there own groups. Looking for William I see him near the entrance, walking over I decide to talk to him.

"Hey William how you doing man, you feeling okay."

"I'm good, what, you need something." William said.

"No, I just wanted to see if your okay is all. I know we all had a long day."

"I'm fine just thinking that I could have spent my day doing something else other then being somewhere I'm not wanted. But Mercedes will soon know where she belongs and who she belongs to. I see her over there all over the trash for no reason."

"What trash?" I say getting heated. " You mean, Avery who risked his life literally to help save all of us including you and you over here grittin on him because he has your girl. Man please get over yourself." I say as I walk away from his stupid behind.

Hearing laughter I see Janell, Leslie, Mercedes, Mel, Brooklyn and Tracy talking up a storm with there flashlights between them. I'm so glad we packed flash lights just in case our walk lasted into the evening hours. It was a warm day today, but now it feels maybe 65 degrees. We built a big enough fire towards the front of the cave and it feels pretty nice in here.

"Honeys we are home!"

Looking up I see Donavan and Flex come further into the cave. Walking over we do the man hug.

"Is there a way out, because I don't think I'm up for climbing back out of this area" I asked.

I see Donavan look at Flex, and I'm thinking this can't be good. "The cave goes back pretty far, but we may have to go back the way we came. I know Avery is hurt but we may not have a choice. We can call the park rangers in the morning and ask for help, but I don't see any other alternative right now." Flex said.

"Hey guys, come over her with us and get warm." I hear Janell say. " This hiking trip has turned into a camping trip so we may as well make the best of it."

"Mercedes, wake Avery and give him some water and Tylenol to help him be more comfortable so when he wakes up he's not to stiff. Here's three right here, and brother come and take three yourself for your ankle." Brooklyn said as she walks towards Mercedes and then William.

After waking Avery, Mercedes give him a bottle of water and the meds and he's back out like a light. I walk over to where Janell is sitting and I pull her closer to me.

"I love you, and I'm so glad that you are here with me right now." I say in her ear. Giggling she leans into me and kiss me on the cheek.

"Get a room!" Bishop yells out as he sits beside Tracy and they have there own conversation. I see that Leslie and Flex are laying near the girls and seem to be half asleep themselves. Brooklyn has been talking to Brian and William for the past few minutes. Donavan is hugged up with my sister, it's still throws me sometimes seeing them together, but I know they love each other so I'm not worried.

It's now 7:15am and the rain subsided but not complete stopped.

"Mommy I'm hungry and I want to go home."

"I know sweetie and we will soon, come and let's have some fruit and juice for breakfast you too Sydney." Leslie said grabbing the two girls and leading them towards the side of the cave.

Looking around the space everyone is starting to stir and we have to figure out our next move.

"Avery, what are you thinking about, you've been standing in the same spot for 20mins. now and I'm getting concern." I hear Mercedes say.

"Naw, bea I'm okay, come look at this, isn't it beautiful." Looking out the entrance of the cave you can see the mountains. " I just want to say thanks love for staying by me last night. I know I was out of it, but you was right their each time I opened my eyes or grunted from pain, and I want you to know I appreciated it, thank you!" Avery said looking at the water cascading over the ledge.

"Leslie, how are the girls, did you pack anything extra for Tierra, if not I did for Sydney if you need anything."

"Look at you Flex, I guess your getting the hang of all of this hum." Leslie said on a laugh.

"No not at all! I'm still struggling trying to figure this all out, but thanks for being their since day one."

"Sorry for ease dropping but, Flex, I think you are doing a great job considering the situation and Leslie I know we just recently met, but thanks for belling my bro out so many times." I say giving Leslie a warm hug and smile, and giving Flex dap.

"Hey guys I just got off the phone with the park rangers and they said the park is closed due to flooding and mud slides. They said if we are safe then we need to stay put and they would try to get to us soon. They know where we are, but unfortunately we are near the flood zone so it could take some time." Brian said.

Talking we decided to text our families giving them our locations and updating them as to what was going on. Then we decided to power off our cells to reserve charge. Taking out all of our supplies to see what we have left we have 10 bottles of water, 6 power drinks, 6 Clift bars, 1/2 loaf of bread, condiments, a pound of meat, 3 bags of chips, 5 packs of cookies and 3 containers of fruit and pasta salad.

I'm actually relieved a little because we do have some food. I'm so happy that Tracy over packed that I could kiss her right now.
