Chapter 4: Bye, Soda
Aurora
"Good morning, Aura," was what I heard as soon as I got out of the practice room.
I saw Declan sitting in the living room with a cup of warm tea in his hand. He was probably checking the class notes on his iPad.
"Good morning," I said and sat on the couch after taking a bottle of water from the kitchen. "From where do I buy the room decorating stuff? I plan on buying today because those bean bags are of no help when all I need is a night of sound sleep."
Declan chuckled. "Did you text Nina last night telling her which color you wanted your room to be painted with?"
"I did after our rehearsal," I responded. We didn't rehearse much last night as Davian and I both wanted to have our new guitars with us before starting to practice. However, I learned that Davian could play almost all the instruments.
I even challenged him, and he proved himself. He played the drums, the saxophone, and even the piano, and I had no admit, the music that came out of that guy was pure magic.
"She will make sure your room gets painted by tonight, so you can move into your room tomorrow. You can buy decorating stuff at the shopping mall near LM."
"Thanks, Dee," I said with a smile. "Why do you guys call me 'Aura' though? I mean, y'all know my name is Aurora, right?"
"Aura is easier and nicer. We know your name, don't worry."
"So you guys gave me a nickname from the beginning?"
Declan took a sip of his drink. "All of us almost have a nickname, except Davian. He hates it when someone alters his name. He claims to love his real name more than anything. Nora had no nickname since her name was short itself."
"Okay, so Davian calls everyone by their nickname, but we can't give him one? Doesn't he believe in equality?"
He burst into laughter. "Davian's equality doesn't mean fifty-fifty. His equality means seventy-thirty. Sometimes, worse, eighty-twenty."
I was stunned to hear him. Basically, Davian was the type of person who mostly wanted things to go his way. No wonder why he wasn't being friendly with me because he never wanted another new bandmate, to begin with.
"So where are you originally from? Were you always in LA or...?" Declan's voice brought me out of my trance.
"Oh, no, I am from Connecticut. What about you? I heard you three were forever the LA boys?"
"Yeah, actually. Davian, Jax, and me, the three of us have been best friends since kindergarten."
"Wow, that's amazing," I let out. They had been friends since childhood and started a band together as well—friendship goals. "When do Jax and Davian wake up, by the way?"
"Jax won't be awake till you wake him up. Weekends are the time he turns off all the alarms and sleeps like a log. Basically, he goes into hibernation. Whereas, Davian always goes to the gym at six in the morning—weekends or not. Not sure if he has returned yet or not."
I glanced at the clock. It was half-past seven in the morning only. I had the habit of waking up at six and doing yoga. Today was no exception. I got up and did yoga in the practice room before coming to the living room.
"When will Cillian and Nina come?" I decided to ask.
"After an hour or so." I got up from the couch with the bottle in my hand as he further spoke up, "Cillian only comes on weekends while Nina comes every day at eight to give us breakfast. She also makes sure we eat lunch, dinner, and all. She's the momma duckling of our band. She literally handles everything."
