Nikhil arrived at the office first, much to his astonishment. Since working with Shreya, she had always been the first to arrive. He knew her reasons: as a team leader, she had to set an example for her subordinates. She was all the more respected. But today, or rather for two days, she had only arrived after him. There was nothing really wrong, she was spending more time getting ready. He had noticed that she took much more care of her appearance. Shreya was a beautiful woman, he knew that. After all, he was a man. He liked to see her show off her femininity.
So he sat down at his desk, turned on his computer and got to work. This new business was not easy. A woman was dead, they had to find out who was responsible for this murder. Of course, they already had an idea, but now it still had to be proven. This man, Vikram Singh was a dangerous man. He was also well protected. Until now, no one had managed to prove his guilt in any case. He fully intended to change that.
A few minutes later, he heard the characteristic walk of Shreya and he looked up to see his colleague arrived, a cup of coffee in her hand. He smiles a little. If there was one thing Shreya couldn't do without it was coffee. She could drink liters of it, which Daya often reproached her for. He couldn't say anything about it, he had been drinking way too much coffee himself for far too long.
The woman took a seat at her desk after giving him a nod. She turned on her computer, got to work immediately. Nikhil watched her carefully. She had dark circles under her eyes, she wasn't getting enough sleep. He wondered what could disturb her so much that he couldn't sleep. He knew that Daya’s absence played a big part in this situation. However, since dating Siddhart, she spent much less time with Daya. She'd gotten used to not working directly with him anymore, at least he thought so. He must have been wrong. He saw her grab an envelope which she quickly put away in a drawer.
- "Is everything okay Shreya?" He inquired.
- "Alright Nikhil thank you," she replied, delving into her work.
He didn't push the question. So he went back to work, reading every report about Vikram Singh. There were so many. Accusations, suspicions, but never anything tangible. He wanted to find something, anything that could help them.
Shreya for her part, carefully studied the autopsy report of young Ruby Rathore. The poor woman had been beaten to death. She wore self-defence marks on her arms and forearms. Shreya pushed her research further and noticed a small detail in one of the photos. There was something on her face that caught Shreya’s eye. Since each photo had also been saved to her computer, she opened it and zoomed in to see what it was.
- “Nikhil come see this,” she called her colleague who stood up and came to stand behind her. "In this photo, do you see the same as me?"
- "Scratches just behind the left ear," Nikhil remarked.
- "If the forensic scientist can get some DNA out of it, maybe we can link it to Vikram so we can get him here for questioning. We don't have anything valid right now. The only thing?" what we can do is go see him and tell him about Ruby. "
- "It's light but it's already more than anything our colleagues have managed to do so far," Nikhil agreed.
- "Alright. Call the coroner and ask him to do some DNA research on that scratch. Then we'll set up a case and go see Vikram."
- "Well pa… good Shreya."
Shreya looked up at her colleague and hardly hid a smile. It had been a long time since Nikhil had called her boss and he missed it. She missed being a team leader more than she wanted to admit. But things had changed and she had to get used to it. She watched as her colleague got to work as she gathered everything she was going to need.
