Month 4
Monday
June 23, 2014It was 10 am in Bucharest, and the sun was shining and the birds were chirping. It was a new week, and Bucky was feeling a little bold and decided it was about time he left the apartment while it was actually daylight.
Bucky got up, brushed his teeth, showered and fixed himself his usual...scrambled eggs, and toast. After breakfast his next stop...the farmers market. Next to visiting the library the farmers market was his other favorite place to visit locally. Normally that trip required more bus tokens but at the same time Bucky didn't mind a far walk.
As Bucky was preparing himself for his task of the day, he heard something outside of his apartment door. It sounded like someone dropped something heavy on the ground and he froze, listening out for the next sign of unwanted company.
Bucky slowly stood up and lifted up the loose floor boards that hid all his most valuable belongings and his weapon stash, he was hoping he wouldn't have to go in it any time soon...he threw all of his belongings into his backpack, reached in the floor and pulled out his 9 mm pistol and slowly headed for the apartment door.
He knew better than to look in the peephole knowing someone could easily shoot him through the peephole so he refused to look through it. In an abundance of caution, Bucky checked around the apartment and made sure there wasn't a trace of him to be found.
Bucky was more than ready to run.
In one swift movement, Bucky opened up the door and immediately aimed his pistol, and he looked down, and immediately stuck his weapon in his back pocket, his mouth hanging agape.
Bucky looked down and saw a small baby girl laying in a car seat stroller with nothing, not even a blanket covering her. Her eyes that were once closed indicating she had been in a deep slumber opened and she had locked eyes with Bucky. His eyes widened and he quickly went back into his apartment and closed the door.
"What the fuck..." Bucky whispered to himself. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath. Maybe he was just imagining things...there was no way someone dropped a baby at his front door. He was hoping that when he opened the door that the baby would just disappear and then he would be at peace knowing maybe he just has an active imagination.
Bucky took a deep breath and opened up the door once again and began sweating bullets when he realized she was still there.
"Shit, Shit, Shit...Where's your mother?" Bucky says in a panic as he looked down the stairwell of the apartment wondering who could have lugged this stroller up to his door.
He then looked back down at the baby.
She was thin and small, showing obvious signs of neglect. Next to her sat a huge duffel bag, and on top of that bag was a Manila folder with her name on it, her name was "Ivory". Bucky opened the folder and inside was a letter along with a birth certificate that had no signature.
The letter read:
"Born @ 5:45 PM on June 1, 2014
I am Ivory Lee, and I am 3 Weeks old. My Mommy didn't know what she was thinking...she is unable and unfit to take care of me...I need someone to love me and keep me safe...My Mommy tried to protect me but she couldn't.P.S. To whoever this note finds, I'm sorry...I couldn't take it anymore...all I ask is that you take care of her better than I ever could."

"I-I no...I'm sorry, you can't stay here." Bucky says getting ready to lug the stroller back down the steps.
Before making any sudden movements, he heard people coming in a few floors down, and it almost sounded as if they were heading up the stairs in his direction. Him being in this apartment was supposed to be a secret, and he wasn't willing to compromise himself for an infant. If anyone caught him his new life...his liberation...would all come to an end. The point of fleeing the United States was to remain hidden.
Sure, no one knew of him in Romania but until he was sure he had to be careful as well as make safe choices.
"Damn it..." Bucky whispered under his breath. He looked back down at the small baby, and sighed before pulling the stroller into his apartment, closing and locking the door afterwards. He parked the stroller in front of the sofa and left the baby in the seat.
He walked a few feet into the kitchen and grabbed one of his many journals off of the top of the refrigerator and He sat down at the kitchen table in the small apartment and began writing. Unlike anything else, writing journal entries is what helped Bucky sharpen and repair his mind post HYDRA Trauma. If not everyday, he wrote in those books at least every other day.
He opened up journal 3 and started a new entry.

June 23, 2014Ivory Lee
3 months. That's how long it's been since the Winter Soldier disappeared. I'm still James Buchanan Barnes, I'm finally able to be who I am, but why does life seem to inconvenience me when things start to get better? As of now, the only inconvenience I'm being faced with is named Ivory Lee.
An infant. I can't do it, and I won't do it...this child was dropped into my lap at the worst of times and I don't have it in me to take care of this kid...I can't even trust my own mind yet here I am with a new born baby in my apartment. I don't know the first thing about babies, yet I have one.
I'm not taking responsibility for this...it's not mine to take. I don't know where she would go...but here...is a place she cannot stay I'm an unstable man, and this child needs stability.

Just as Bucky had been finishing up his journal entry he suddenly heard a whine coming from the baby seat.
"Shhhhhhh...please...no...No one can know I'm here." Bucky says hushing the baby. Her pink pacifier had fallen out of her mouth and Bucky was quick to put it back in, hoping it would silence her.
The child looked up at Bucky and her binky fell out again and she wore a sad pout on her lips and opened up her mouth to cry. She had a very pitchy, potent newborn cry and at the moment her crying sounded very intense, repetitive and angry. Bucky had no idea what to do in this moment...was he supposed to let her cry? How could he possibly soothe a newborn infant?
"Shhh...you want this? Is this what you want?" Bucky says giving the baby her pacifier again only for her to spit it out and scream at an even louder octave. She screamed and began aggressively chewing on her fists and kicking her small feet.
What could it all mean?
