“Because I don’t love her Evan” he said unhesitant.

“You can’t love me Ashley” I laughed “Loving me is like saying you don’t want to move to L.A. And I’m too stubborn and stuck in my ways to leave” I looked at him, his gaze fixed away from me, but I kept on “And I can’t hold you back, you have so much talent Ash. I always talk about moving to a big city because I miss it. But I love this small town more than I thought I could” I snickered to myself. I didn’t want to move here, I loved the big city, but then I met the people I did, and I became reluctant to ever go back.

~Presently~

He chuckled, and though he still faced away from me he began to talk “I remember the first day you came to school. I could tell you were new because you had that look of “what the fuck do I do?” look on your face”

“Oh, so I amused you did I?” I laughed.

“You did” he agreed “You made it to the office, and in order to help you around school, they called in the first person who passed by the door. Which happened to be me, because I was entranced by you, so I followed you” he said as though it was the silliest thing he had ever done.

“So is Ashley Purdy admitting that he has a stalking problem?” I joked and nudged his arm.

“Well, I guess I do” he laughed along “but only with beautiful girls” I bushed from his comment “And it just so happened, that this beautiful girl had the same classes as I did” he finally looked at me, a small smile on his face “We became friends in the few months that we had left of school. And I thought to myself 'this girl is amazing. But she’d never be with me', but I was glad to just have you in my life” he grabbed my hand, intertwining our fingers “And when you found out that I wanted to play guitar, you bought me my first guitar for my birthday that year. And I remember thinking 'God, could I love this girl any more than I already do? But, she’d never be with me and that thought always ran through my head” he chuckled and smiled.

“You really wanted that guitar, and I wanted to get you something special” she whispered.

“Then you bought me my first bass for Christmas that year too. And the thought that ran through my head was 'I love this girl, and I want to be with her' and I didn’t have that thought that you wouldn’t be with me anymore” he leaned in closer. I pulled away and looked at the sky, it started to sprinkle again.

“I remember the first day I met you too Ash” I bit my lip" When the office attendant said 'This is Ashley Purdy, he’ll show you around.' I thought it was amazing that your name was Ashley, I love the fact that your name is Ashley actually” I laughed as he shook his head as he chuckled “You were so shy at first, and I was so obnoxious. I was glad that we had the same classes, because you opened up. And even though we only got to spend three months in school together, but we spent the whole summer together”

“I remember that summer. It was one of the best I had” he looked longingly into my eyes.

“I remember heading out to the park after school and then during the summer we went after work when I didn’t want to go home, and we’d climb that old oak tree, and we’d sit and watch the sunset” I lowered my eyes to my hands, I had been wringing them together “I told you my secrets, you told me yours. I learned what you hated, and you learned what I hated. I learned what you wanted to achieve, and we found out how similar we were. It was that night I decided I loved you” Ashley grabbed my hands, forcing me to look him in the eyes.

“Then it wasn’t just me Evan?” he asked, his eyes boring deep into mine. He began to lean in, and I followed. Just before our lips connected, I responded.
