Chapter 7. Gonna keep this brief so you can read more! Enjoy.

I woke up on the couch at Vicky's house. I packed up all my things and came back here. I was happy though, and sworn off guys for a while. I shift my head and my cheek stung like someone was pressing a needle onto it. I sat up and headed to the bathroom. I looked at myself in the mirror and sighed. My cheek was red and I had a black eye, but I didn't care about that. Ash had acted surprisingly well to the fact that I was alive, but he probably also had a girl to meet at his place. I walked out of the bathroom and into the kitchen; I pulled out the chair from the table and sat down.

It was Friday morning, and I was waiting for Adrian to wake up. He had school in an hour, and I helped him get ready when I was there. I hated these mornings when I hit the ground running. I hated when I woke up to a crowded mind. I thought sleep was supposed to stop and give a fresh start every day.

"Morning Auntie Evangeline" A sleepy Adrian said as he rubbed his eyes.

"Good morning Adrian" I smiled.

"What happened?" his face turned into a frown.

"Oh," I touched my cheek and flinched "I got into a fight, but I'm okay" I smiled.

"Okay" he hopped onto my lap.

"You ready for school today?" I whispered in his ear. He yawned before responding.

"Yea" he smiled "We're doing a lot of reading in class"

"Oh really now?" I laughed and started to tickle him "My boy is learning new words?"

"Auntie Evangeline!" he cried through giggles "Stop!"

"My little boy is growing up!" I fake cried.

"Ms. Hailey said we are learning reading comprehshe-on" he struggled with the word, but he was getting better.

"Well, that is what makes you smarter" I touched my finger to his head. "Go get ready Adrian, I'll cook you some breakfast" I lifted him off my lap.

"Okay" he sighed and then headed back to his room.

I headed to the fridge and pulled out eggs and a carton of milk. I reached and searched through the freezer for bacon, frozen solid, of course. I could do what I could. I fried some eggs and added cheese, and I thawed out the bacon before cooking it in the pan. I saw Adrian take his seat at the table and I served him up some food.

He chomped down like he hadn't eaten in years. He being seven didn't change the way he acted. He was so smart and he grew smarter every day. I loved Adrian with all my heart, and even though I wasn't really his aunt or his mom, he treated me and Vicky as though we were.

"Adrian you ready buddy?" Vicky came out as she grabbed her purse. He shoved the rest of his bacon into his mouth.

"Yes Aunt Vicky" he smiled and grabbed his backpack. Then they were out the door. My phone buzzed on the counter, and I picked it up.

"Hey Hannah" I smiled.

"Where are you?" she asked excitedly.

"At my house with Vicky, about to get into the shower" I sighed as I picked up the empty plate and put it into the sink.

"Well, can we come over?" she asked.

"I don't see why not" I said. I gave her the address and hung up. Having the girls over wouldn't be a big deal.

I went upstairs into my room and stripped. I looked at my face in the mirror one last time before walking into my bathroom. I turned on the water and ran my hand under the faucet. I filled the tub with the warmth and bubbles. I grabbed my iPod and speakers and plugged them into the wall.
