Chapter 20. I know I kinda pulled your heart strings in that last chapter. I’m sorry, but I had this planned out from the beginning. Enjoy chapter 20.

~Previously~

“Don’t take him from me! I need him!” I screamed out bloody murder “Please god, give him back to me! I need him!” I cried “Please! Please! I love him!” I screamed.

Ashley’s heart had stopped beating. And I was falling apart. All I could do was pray to god for him to give him back. I couldn’t lose him, I would die. I needed him, and his heart was no longer beating for me, in fact, it wasn’t beating at all.

“Get her off him!” one of the doctors shouted. Tears blinded me, I couldn’t see a thing.

“He’s gone” another one said. And I let my head fall on his chest.

I didn’t know what was going on anymore. I was a struggle to breathe, I had to fight. I couldn’t hear anything, and I tried to open my eyes. I captured glimpses of faces and lights. I wanted to ask what was going on, but it hurt to breathe. I felt pressure in and on my chest, and I wanted it to stop. My heart was breaking, just let it die. Then I heard her voice.

I couldn’t hear anything for a while, and then her voice rang out above the others. The stress and hurt in it made me want to cry myself. I felt a new kind of pressure on my chest, warm, inviting, scared. I knew it was Evangeline.

“Don’t take him from me! I need him!” she screamed out “Please god, give him back to me! I need him! Please! Please! I love him!” she cried.

The last part made my heart beat again. It no longer hurt to breathe, and I wanted to sit up. I opened my eyes wide for the first time since I’ve been at the hospital. She was lying on my chest, crying, her curly hair falling in her face. I saw the girls and the guys standing by the door, each comforting one another. Then Allie looked over and saw me. She gasped, making the others turn in speculation. Evangeline was quietly crying, and she let out a sniffle before looking up at me.

“Ashley!” she cried, wrapping her arms around my neck.

“Evangeline” I croaked in barely a whisper. Pain shot through me, but I didn’t care.

“Please don’t leave me” she cried on my shoulder.

“I won’t, I’m sorry” I replied, my throat burning.

“Don’t scare us like that!” CC yelled.

“Sorry guys” I smiled and blushed.

“While you were going in cardiac arrest I was having a heart attack!” Dara yelled. I gave out a small laugh. “I have to call Drake and tell him why I didn’t answer” she sighed, walking out of the room.

“Ashley?” she whimpered quietly.

“Yes?” I replied.

“I’m sorry” her eyes became watery.

“No, it’s okay” I said “Let’s just let the whole thing blow over. It was a misunderstanding”

“I love you” her voice cracked.

“I love you too” I replied, kissing her soft warm cheek.

I pulled back and looked at her for the first time in almost two months. Her face seemed a bit thinner; the bags under her eyes were darker than usual. She looked like she was still recovering too.  But her skin had brightness to it, and I was happy, but I was still in pain. The guys cleared out of the room, one by one. Eventually it was me and Evangeline alone, with the incessant heart monitor.
