Part 36: One Day You Will Feel It

December 25, 1974

It was eight thirty in the morning, hooray, Christmas day day two! Today our parents came to visit.

Unfortunately I was woken up by Roger who was throwing up in the bathroom.

I climbed out of bed to see what was wrong with Roger, I opened the bathroom door and saw Roger crouched in front of the toilet. "What's the matter with you, honey?" I whispered quietly. Roger looked at me with tears in my eyes, "Last night I got food poisoning I think, everything is coming out now and I have a stomachache." Roger said with a loud sigh.

"I'll call the doctor for you, honey." I said as I turned and walked down to the phone. Roger wanted to say something but couldn't because of his gag reflex.

I ran to the phone as fast as I could for an appointment.

After I called the doctor, Roger was referred to the hospital for a closer examination as the doctor was closed for Christmas.

I ran back to Roger to see how he was doing. "Roger, honey, we can come in two hours, are you feeling better now?" I asked. Roger seemed very sick and shook his head.

"I feel so guilty because this has to happen now." Roger said as he tried to get up. "Let me help you stand, it's okay, just try to get some sleep." I said as I grabbed his arm and walked to the bedroom.

Roger could barely stand on his feet. "Lie down and rest, I'll wake you up when we go to the hospital, okay honey?" I whispered.

"Okay baby, thank you." Roger said softly as he almost drifted off to sleep. I kissed his forehead and quietly left the bedroom.

I felt kind of bad about Roger that this had to happen to him on a beautiful day. But I will take care of my big bear today.

I got Benjamin out of his bed, "Slept well, honey? Now is the day you can play with your presents." I said as I dressed Benjamin.

"But let's be very quiet, Daddy is sleeping and not feeling well. Mommy is making breakfast for you, are you coming with me?" I asked as I raised my hand. Benjamin nodded excitedly and grabbed my hand.

When me and my son were downstairs we sat at the table. I looked to the right where Roger always sits, I sighed and took a bite of my sandwich.

After our breakfast was finished, I went to play with Benjamin on the floor with his toys, alone without Roger. I took the big toy train out of the packaging, Benjamin couldn't wait to admire the toy train!

"Put it on, Mommy!" Benjamin said as he clapped his hands. I put the track, it was quite a puzzle. "Wait a minute dear, the track has yet to be made, otherwise the train can't run." I laughed.

After five minutes the train track was finished, "Shall we test it now?" I asked Benjamin. Benjamin nodded his head and crawled into me, I clicked the power button and he drove. "He works!" I said excitedly.

Benjamin's eyes were on the train that went three circles. I completely forgot the time and looked at the clock. "Sorry sweetie, we have to go now. Are you coming with me to the hospital?" I asked. Benjamin nodded but continued to stare at the train.
