Akeela's phone was already ringing by the time she came out of the bathroom after taking a shower. It was Fiona.
"Hello babe", Akeela chuckled.
"Hi, love. I just heard the good news from Isabella."
"What good news?" Akeela rolled her eyes. She knew what it was already. She had called Isabella the day before to tell her of the breakup with Fred. Isabella wasn't really happy about it.
"The break up you......."
"Fiona", Isabella chipped in.
Fiona was excited about the breakup. She had always wanted it to happen.
"What?" She barked at Isabella. "When is the wedding, darling? I'm super proud of you."
"I caught him cheating again, Fiona", Akeela stated her reason for breaking up with Fred.
"I told you, didn't I? Thank God you made this decision on time. Be kind enough to send us the picture of your new hot dude. I can't wait to see him. If he is too hot, I will have to let go of my boyfriend and come down to Nigeria just to share him with you", she said and they all laughed at her silliness.
"No. I'm not interested in sharing him."
"Really? You are already possessive of him?"
"Nah!" Akeela laughed again.
"Anyways send us the wedding IV, Nigeria here we come", she giggled from the other side.
The door to Akeela's bedroom opened stopping her from replying. She hoisted her head up to see her mother come in. She was in her usual boubou gown.
"Hmm, babe, can I call you guys later?" She knew her mom was in her room for a reason...an important issue.
"Sure. Love you."
"Love you, girls, too," Akeela answered and disconnected the call.
"Mom?"
"Uhm? How was work today?"
"Work was fine." Her mother sat on her sofa.
"I came to give you this", she stretched her hand to give her a paper.
"Ok?" Akeela took it with curiosity.
She reads through it and look up. "What is this for, mom?"
"What does it look like?" Her mother questioned back, nonchalantly as she relaxed on the sofa.
"This is a fucking catering school form."
"Akeela, don't use such words in my house", she warned.
Akeela looked away in guilt. "Sorry."
"Gannie Delight trains her students once in every year. I want you to learn how to cook before your marriage, so make use of this opportunity", her mother told her.
"Mom, I don't know how to cook?" She asked her mom.
"Yes, you don't", her mother asserted.
"But I cooked dinner yesterday when Esther didn't come in....."
"What did you cook?" She asked softly, interrupting her.
"Rice," Akeela replied in the same tone and with a frown on her face.
"It was salty", she complained and leaned forward. "Remember I told you you can't employ a maid?"
"Why?"
Her mother chuckled. "Maids are not to be trusted, except you want them to snatch your husband."
Akeela wanted to say something but decided against it.
