FLASHBACK
RABIU
"Are you blind or something? I got here before you", she yelled.
"Woman, we got here at the same time", I told her calmly. "If you aren't rude, I wouldn't hesitate to let go of this vacant seat for you but as it is......."
"Una dey go abi you no go?" The conductor shouted in impatience.
The bus was about to take off. Before I could say jack, Ameera had entered and sat down on the only seat. I was already late for my call to the bar so I told the conductor to let me sit on the engine.
Ameera wouldn't stop cursing, hissing, and glaring at me till we got to our destination. We came down from the bus at the same bus stop and I got angry as she kept cursing. I had to refrain from replying to her.
After the day's ceremony, I took my car to a mechanic before going home. When I got home, I remembered what happened and I began to laugh. It was funny. My impatience didn't allow me to find it funny that morning.
For days, I couldn't let go of her thoughts. I always smile whenever I remember and I was hoping we would meet again but we didn't until after six months.
I went to a restaurant to get food when I bumped Into her. She was with a friend.
"Mr man, are you blind or something?" The tone and voice alone got my heart pounding. I knew I had found her. My iron lady.
Abdul from work was texting me and I was trying to reply to him back when I bumped into her. The food in the tray she was carrying almost spilled. I didn't reply. I smiled only.
"You again?" she asked when her eyes rested on mine.
"Yes, me again," I answered her with a sly smile.
"You know each other?" Her friend demanded with a smile.
"Yes, we do", I smiled back at the girl.
"No, we don't", she answered and walked away. I watched as she went to take a seat with her friend who was giggling and talking to her.
Ameera's face was expressionless.
I quickly got my food too and went to their table. "Can I join you, ladies?"
"No!" She exclaimed.
"Yes, please", the other lady said, earning a glare from her.
"How do you know Ameera?" The girl questioned when I took a seat opposite them. Ameera on the other hand was just eating. She didn't even spare me a glance.
"Is that her name? Ameera?"
"Yes."
The girl and I got talking and when I told her how we first met, she shrieked in laughter. "Don't mind her. She is hard but soft-hearted."
My phone interrupted me from replying. I was hoping she would just look at me but she didn't. She continued eating as if we were not there and as if we were not talking about her.
Abdul was the one that called. I forgot to reply to his text so he decided to call me to hear my response since it was urgent.
He was handling his first case that day and he was asking for my suggestion about the case. I explained things to him and wished him luck. By the time I was done with my call, the girls were already done eating and Ameera was silently watching me.
"You are a lawyer?" She questioned with disbelief.
"Yes."
"A little boy like you?"
