LAGOS, Nigeria
Akeela discovered that the hustle and bustle of Lagos was still the same way she left it and a wave of deja vu engulfed her.
She also noticed the changes. There was a lot of improvement. There were new roads and infrastructure but the traffic was still the same.
She was surprised to realize she barely thought of Nigeria after a while of being in England but being home again, she was glad.
She tried to shut the thoughts and emotions about Fred and her friends out of her mind for the time being. She assured herself that all will be well.
They were going to communicate through skype and other social media handles. They took pictures together while her luggage were being carried on board and when Akeela logged in on instagram, she saw that the picture was there already. Fiona posted it with the hashtag of "Queen Keela, we love you."
As the chauffeur drove through the familiar University of Lagos, where she was supposed to go to before her dad suggested she goes overseas, Akeela watched the building carefully and her brother who came to welcome her home noticed and questioned, "What are you looking at?"
"Nothing", she smiled. He was the firstborn of her parents and he got married to an Arabian lady who happened to be the daughter of their mom's friend.
When Akela saw the chauffeur only at the airport, she was disappointed and had the intention of voicing out her disappointment to her mom when she gets home.
But when Akeem appears, she was overjoyed. They hugged each other and he carried and spun her around like a little child. Akeem loved to shower praises on Akeela.
He was very much older than her and he got married when Akeela was still in secondary school. He was 11 years older than Akeela.
"Nothing", she said hastily with a smile.
She didn't want to voice out her thoughts. She was wondering what her life would be like if she had schooled in Nigeria instead of England. If she would be different from the Akeela that she was.
She knew she wouldn't have met Fred or any of the girls and she was grateful for that. She was grateful she had the opportunity to meet them.
They hold a special place in her heart. She was going to miss almost everyone she had come in contact with in England.
She chuckled at the thought. It sounded ridiculous. But her subconscious told her she has a large heart to accommodate them all. She loved them all.
"You have a fine British accent there, you know?" Her brother teased.
"Nah! It's no different from how you speak, Akeem", she chuckled.
"Really?"
"Yep."
"Nah! It's no different from how you speak", he mimicked her accent. "That's how you are speaking, do you know that?"
She looked thoughtful for a while before shrugging. "I never knew."
"So how is England?"
She smiled. "I miss everyone there already."
"Uhmm...your boyfriend or friends?"
She blushed. "Both. They are amazing people."
"Oh! So, you have a boyfriend? I never knew."
"You never asked."
"What's his name?"
"Frederick." She answered proudly.
"Frederick Lugard?" Akeela laughed.
