Chapter 40

A couple of years later!

Alex's POV

"Mrs Dane your wife..." my secretary told me again but I interrupted her.

"She called again. I get it we have dinner plans today. Thank you Anna. Tell her I will be there on time." I said while I continued doing paperwork.

"I was going to say she is here but you don't listen to me anymore boss..." she said leaving while Summer walked in.

I stood up to greet my wife. "I am sorry Anna!" I yelled as she left my office.  "So were do I owe the pleasure of this visit?"

"You have been working too much the past days. You haven't been home enough. I wanted to make sure you would be home, today is a big day." She grabbed my hands as I was leaning against my desk.

"I know I haven't been home much lately but this is important. It is about a very special client and good friend, Mr Rodriguez. I have to make sure that hip pregnant wife is safe. I am basically protecting a baby, you can't be mad at that..."

"Alex, no more excuses. I know that after what happened with Lia the house feels empty for you but you also have other children that need you." She said.

Why did she have to talk about Lia? She knows I don't like this subject.

"I love all my kids and you know that. I want to spend as much time with them as I can but I am also running a multi million dollar company that also needs much attention... And before you say anything more, I know my responsibilities and my priorities and as I said before to Anna, I will be home today. This is a promise." I said and kissed her forehead.

"Ok, I have to go now, the kids are alone with Barbara. They will drive her crazy." She said and pecked my lips. Barbara is our maid. She is a very sweet old lady that has been very helpful with the kids.

As she was getting out of my office, another person was getting in.

"Helena, it is so nice to see you. Did Alex say anything about today, of course you are invited, I will be expecting you." Summer said after she gave her a hug.

Helena has been working with me for a long time. She is my right hand and my most trusted person in this company.

"Mrs Dane, I am honored but..." Helena started but I interrupted her.

"Helena you know very well that my wife is a stubborn woman, she is not going to take no for an answer." I said smirking a little.

Helena smiled politely at me and looked back at my wife. "I will do my best to be there." She said and with that Summer left us alone.

"Can't you do something to get me out of this? Say that there is an emergency or something!" Helena asked me with pleading eyes.

"If I have to go so do you!" I said and sat back on my chair.

"This is your family." She said

"Like it or not it is yours too. It will always be." She looked helpless

"Will he be there?" She asked with a low and serious voice.

"He will be accompanying his wife." I said and she sighed.

"I will see what I can do."

And with that we started talking about work.
