He just wasn't happy today. All the animals could feel it but none of them knew why Damian was so down in the dumps. It was sad to watch Damian feed them without asking them how it tasted or just talking to them normally.
He didn't give Titan a pat on the head when he left his room. He didn't let Garret sit on his shoulders down the stairs and Titus went ignored as Damian sat at the dinner table.
No one else seemed to notice Damian's plight other than his animals.
Tim stepped into the dining room, picked up his plate, and left back to his room. Bruce didn't even show up and Alfred left to tend to his chores.
Damian was alone except for his pets who tried desperately to make him happier.
Titan jumped around and ran to catch his tail to make Damian smile but Damian hardly gave him a glance as he walked past.
Titus ran in front of Damian and picked up a toy and looked at Damian hopefully.
So their joy Damian sighed and opened the front door as if he was going to play with them outside.
Except after they ran out he closed the door.
It was up to Garret who climbed the stairs faster than Damian and when they reached the room he picked up his ball and rolled around with it.
But Damian's face was stone.
Even Raven tried to get him to pet her but he hardly granted her a single pet before taking his backpack and leaving to go to school.
He opened the front door and the dogs flooded in as it started to sprinkle outside.
Damian made an audible sigh before leaving the manor, not even running to the car to avoid the rain.
Titan whined and sat on the floor.
"Damian hates us" Titan whined.
"He's just sad today. I don't know why." Titus sighed.
They sat there for a while until Alfred let them go outside but it was raining so they came back in quickly. The whole day passed as they sat at the door. Garret, Jerry, and Raven even joined them and when Bruce walked by he was surprised to see the animals just piled on top of each other, staring at the door.
Tim was walking by another time and saw them. "Don't worry, he'll be home in like, three hours," Tim said as he crouched down and pet their heads. He frowned when he didn't even get a tail wag or gobble. Tim sighed and looked at the front door. "What do you see in him?" he asked. "I mean, he's mean, rude, snarky, and overall kind of an animal, no offense."
The animals looked at him with such sadness that it made Tim concerned. The animals were mopey when Damian left but not THIS mopey. Titus didn't even come to sit in his room which was the reason Tim came out in the first place.
It was when Titan whined did Tim finally give in.
He sighed and stood up. "Fine!" He said loudly before walking away. He returned just a minute later holding keys, and his coat. Yes, Tim could drive, but he hardly did.
"Come on, let's go get him" Tim said, shaking his head at himself as he opened the front door to reveal the light ran descending to the ground.
The animals jumped up and followed him outside. They piled into the car while Tim yelled over his shoulder "I'm taking the animals for a walk!" Before he got into the drivers seat and glanced into the backseat to see the millions of animals sitting there. "What am I doing?" Tim muttered before he turned the car on and drove off.
Tim felt like a weirdo when he got to a stop light and the people in the cars beside his saw the arrangement of animals in his.
He looked over at a gaping man who was staring, his jaw open. When the Man met Tim's eyes Tim pulled his sunglasses down and gave him a peace symbol before driving off.
It wasn't long before Tim pulled up to Damian's school. He started to wonder what he was going to even say to get Tim out of school. Finally he just called Damian.
Damian answered with a glum "Hello?"
Tim sighed "You too? Well no wonder they're so sad!"
"Who?" Damian asked.
Tim rolled his eyes and said "Just get out of the building, you're making your animals depressed. Here listen" Tim turned the phone to the dogs who were whining so Damian could hear it. Tim pulled the phone back to his ear and said "Now get out here!" Before he hung up. He turned back to the animals "He's coming, and not a word of this to Jason, got it?!"
The animals started to look happier already and when they saw Damian through the window, jogging slightly to the car they started to jump up and make all sorts of animal noises. Damian opened the back door and the animals attacked him in happy embraces.
Tim smiled a little while Damian fought his way into the backseat where the animals licked and flocked around him.
"Glad to see you have some form of friends" Tim muttered.
Damian looked like he was holding back a smile before he said "Drake, I still have school." But his words were hardly an argument as Tim started the car again and started to drive away.
"Just say the dogs ate your homework." Tim said as he pulled out of the parking place and drove back to the manor. "Besides, your animals need you. You should have seen how depressed they were. They didn't leave the front door ever since you left."
Damian looked at his loyal pets and smiled a little.
"We got him to smile!" Titan cheered excitedly, his tail hitting Garret repeatedly.
"Okay, okay! Enough is enough! Stop hitting me with your tail!" Garret growled as he held onto the tail but was just swept off his feet and was carried with the tail back and forth.
They got back to the manor and Tim got out, pinning his keys on his finger as he walked back into the manor, leaving Damian with his still excited animals.
"Drake!" Damian called, jumping out of the car.
Tim stopped at the front door of the manor and glanced back at Damian.
Damian looked hesitantly before saying "Thank you"
Tim stared at him then smiled "You're welcome demon child, now go play with your animals, this was a one time thing."
He walked into the manor leaving Damian who was happy to play with his animals once again. It wasn't long before they sun came out of it's hiding spot from behind the clouds to make light for the happy owner and pets.
He'd never admit this, but Tim watched from his room's window with a satisfied smile before sitting back at his desk.
"Yep, best brother of the month, take that Dick." Tim said, before going back to type on his computer.
