Chapter 10

"Thanks for meeting with me."

Alexis sighed, sitting in her normal booth a few weeks before Christmas to see a coffee and blueberry muffin waiting for her already. "How did you know I like blueberry muffins?"

Chris shrugged, smiling, "I asked Nora what your normal was."

"Oh. It's Nora now?" She smiled, as she started to eat the muffin, "what am I doing here Chris?"

He smiled, leaning back to watch her, "because this is where we met. We can be friends, can't we? I want to try and be friends."

She laughed, "you want to be friends after confessing you're in love with me?"

He shrugged, "you didn't deny not being in love with me too."

She shook her head, "Chris. I'm with Joey and I meant what I said; I'm in love with him."

He laughed, "again, you didn't deny it. Anyways. We can be friends. Right?"

"I guess so." She laughed as he smiled, sitting up straight.

"Good. We never really got a chance to get to know each other properly. And I realize that is my fault."

She nodded, "Chris..."

"No." He reached over, grabbing her hand, "let me finish." He let go of her hand, "I'm really sorry Lexi. For everything. I should have been more upfront with you from the beginning how I felt. And I should have been more upfront with Rachel about how I felt too. And you should know, I've never taken anyone to the spot looking over the harbor. Only you. And I wasn't trying to hide you. I was trying to share a part of myself with you."

"Okay. I appreciate the apology. Have you apologized to Rachel?"

He sighed and nodded, "I have."

She nodded, "okay. Good."

He smiled, "so can we be friends?"

She shrugged, "I guess so."

He nodded, "good. So you and Joey are good? I only want you to be happy Lex. Even if that means it isn't with me." He shrugged, chuckling, "doesn't mean I'm going to be giving up hope any time soon though."

She laughed, "I am happy Chris. I'm sorry. If things had been different maybe we'd be on the same side of the booth. But it didn't work out."

Chris sighed, nodding, "I know."

Alexis sat on Christmas Eve, opening her present from Joseph. Inside the box she found plane tickets, "Sweden? You're taking me to Sweden?" She laughed, confused.

Joseph smiled, "yes. It's the best place and best time of year to see the Northern Lights. Mount Njella has a sky station we can stay at and see the lights."

"Oh my god, Joey! That's the sweetest thing ever. Minus the fact I hate the cold." She leaned towards him, "but I guess you'll just have to keep me warm?"

He smiled, leaning in towards her, "oh yes. I love you Lexi."

She kissed him urgently before answering as she felt him pull her into his lap, making her straddle him.

He moaned, pulling away a bit, "we're supposed to be going to a Christmas party at Lisa's love."

She nodded, "so we're a bit late. I love you too Joey." She heard him moan again as she reached between her legs, undoing his pants as she pulled him from his pants. She felt him hike up her dress as she quickly moved her panties to the side, lowering herself onto him urgently.

"Fuck Lexi."

She giggled, "want me to stop?" She pretended to get up but felt him slam her back down hard onto him, making her moan.

"Definitely not."

"Sorry we're late Lisa."

She laughed as Joseph apologized, "we're all adults. They know what we were doing." She looked up to see Chris look at the floor at her comment as she removed her coat. She hugged him, kissing him on the cheek, "Merry Christmas Chris."

He smiled, "Merry Christmas Alexis."

He lowered his voice, "I have something for you."

She nodded, following him to a separate room as he handed her a small present.

"It's just a book. You can open it later."

"You know I love books. Thank you Chris." She leaned up to kiss him on the cheek but felt him move his head at the last minute, making her kiss him on the lips as she lingered for a moment.

He brought his hand to her cheek, kissing her softly once more before pulling away. "I love you Lex."

She nodded, feeling her heart racing, "I know Chris." She heard him chuckle as he walked away. When she came back out to everyone else she found Chris sitting at the piano, playing Christmas music as she found Joey.

He leaned down to her ear, "are you okay?"

She nodded, "yeah. He just wanted to give me a present."

Joseph nodded, "okay."

Scott walked up to them, "what are you guys doing for New Years?"

She smiled, looking at Joseph, "we're going to see the Northern Lights in Sweden." They all heard a bad note on the piano as they looked to see Chris stop playing.

"You're going to Sweden?!"

She laughed, "yeah. Is that a problem?" She watched him zone out as he went back to playing with less enthusiasm as before.

He shook his head, "no of course not. Just surprised. Sorry." He watched them for a minute before going back to playing, lost in thought as to why he would be taking her all the way there. As if he couldn't figure out why Joseph was taking her there. Why else would he take her there? It was too late.
