Alexis arrived at the address Scott gave her for his mother's house for his birthday party. She knocked on the door as she waited nervously for him to answer; which he did, with a smile. "Scott! Happy Birthday!"

"Alexis! I'm so happy you're here." He stepped to the side to let her in, "come in, come in."

She entered the house, hanging her coat on a hook. "Thanks for inviting me Scott."

He ushered her ahead of him to the kitchen, "mom. Alexis is here."

Alexis smiled, greeting his mom, "Lisa, it's good to see you again."

Scott motioned to some women, "these are my sisters, Shanna and Carly."

She smiled, shaking their hands before turning to Scott, "I'm sorry. But where is the restroom." She let him lead her to the bathroom. When she came out she noticed family pictures all along the halls. She stopped at a picture of Scott with his siblings as kids and she finally saw it, "fuck."

"What's the matter?"

Alexis looked up to see Scott watching her. She shook her head, "no. Nothing. I just never realized who your brother was. I'm an idiot."

He laughed, shrugging, "it's fine. I liked knowing you wanted to be my friend for me and not to get to him."

She smiled, grabbing his hand, "I want to be your friend in spite of who your brother is."

Scott laughed, "come on. He should be here any minute. But there's someone I want you to meet."

Alexis nodded as she let him drag her to the back sunroom, placing her in front of an attractive blond man with blue eyes.

"Alexis, this is Joseph. Joseph, this is Alexis."

She smiled as she accepted his hand, watching him bring her hand to his mouth for him to kiss her knuckles, making her blush as he did. "Nice to meet you Joseph."

Jospeh smiled, dropping her hand, "it's nice to meet you too Alexis. Please, call me Joey. Can I call you Lexi?"

Alexis thought about it for a moment before shaking my head, "I'd prefer if you didn't."

He laughed, nodding, "no worries. So what do you do?"

She saw Scott wink at her as he disappeared, leaving her alone with Joseph, "I'm a financial adviser, you?"

"I'm an attorney."

She smiled, "my sister and brother in law are attorneys. Robert and Erin Dodson."

He nodded, "oh yeah. They have their own private firm downtown?"

She nodded, "yup. They're disgustingly in love. Work together, live together." She smiled as she made him laugh. He was cute when he laughed. She heard commotion behind her as she went back into the main part of the house in time to see Chris rounding the corner into the living room, locking eyes with her.

"Alexis!"

Alexis smiled as Rachel came up to her, hugging her before turning back to Chris.

"Lexi?"

Alexis half smiled, "hi Chris."

Scott came up to them, "wait, how do you guys know each other?"

She shook her head as she watched the panic wash over Chris's face, "we met at the coffee shop. I ran into him, spilling coffee on my book. He replaced it the next week. That's all." She saw him look down at the floor as she lied for him. "I'm gonna go find something to drink."

Chris groaned as he watched Alexis walk away from him and he saw a look on my brother's face telling him that he didn't believe any of it. Chris shook hi head at his brother as he pulled Chris into a bedroom, shutting the door behind them, "Scott. Don't."

"Lexi? That sounds like more than just a once meeting Chris."

Chris shook his head, "it's nothing. We've texted some. It's not like we're dating or anything."

Scott nodded, "I would hope not. You have a girlfriend." Scott watched him for a minute, "then I guess you're okay with me setting Alexis up with Joseph?"

Chris tried to keep a straight face and not show his jealousy as he nodded, "of course I'm okay with it."

"Uh huh." Scott nudged him in the chest, "you leave that girl alone. She's too good for you."

Chris groaned, knowing he was right as he followed Scott back to the rest of the party.

Alexis stood in the kitchen talking to Joseph alone when she saw Chris come into the room, approaching Joseph, "hey Joey. How are you?"

Joseph smiled, "I'm good. How's it going Chris?"

Chris nodded, smiling, looking at Alexis, "can I get a minute with Alexis?"

Joseph hesitated, looking at her to see her nod before he left them alone in the kitchen.

Alexis sighed, "what do you want? At least now I know there isn't something dramatically wrong with me."

He groaned, "I'm sorry Lexi."

She shook her head, "no. Don't call me that Chris. Now I know why you you suddenly went cold and started to ghost me."

Chris sighed, "come on. It wasn't like we actually went out on a real date. We've only been talking."

She scoffed, "right. Don't treat me like some love stricken little girl Christopher. You think whatever you need to think if it makes it easier for you to face your girlfriend. You took me someplace private so you wouldn't be seen with me. Who knows how many other girls you've taken up there."

"No! I've never taken any girls there. Only you. Look. I'm sorry Lexi. I told you it was complicated."

"Whatever." Alexis started to leave the kitchen but felt him grab her arm, "let go of me or I'll show our messages to your mother and girlfriend and let them decide if you were cheating." She heard him groan as he let her go. "I'm glad to know the problem wasn't me, you are just a prick." She went back, talking to Joseph seeing Chris watching them.

Alexis felt Scott pull her off to the side.

"What's up with you and my brother. I know he's lying. Is he the one that took you on a date and then ghosted you?"

She sighed and nodded, "yeah. I swear I had no idea he was one, your brother and two, that he had a girlfriend."

He shook his head, "no. I believe you. I'm sorry."

"It's fine. It's my own fault."

Scott grabbed her arm, "what? Why?"

She shrugged, looking at Rachel with Chris, "because, why would he ever want me when he has her."

Scott groaned, "trust me. They won't last. He doesn't love her."
