"Stay here, wait for me" and with that she ran off again leaving Carina smiling at the comfort of Maya wanting her to stay

Carina lay in Maya's bunk in her own world, one that only Maya and her existed in. No girlfriends or crazy sex buddies. Just the two of them. The brunette putting herself to sleep at the calming thoughts.

The team arrived back at the station after a pretty decent call. The fire went by the books and didn't through them any curveballs. They were however stuck in traffic for an hour so they didn't get back until 6pm. Maya assumed that Carina would have left because she had been gone for 4 hours. A disappointed look came across her face at the thought of making Carina wait all that time for her. This is why she didn't do relationships, because her job was her number one priority and nothing came before it. However Maya knew that Carina might be an exception something which made her feel conflicted.

As they all piled out of the trucks and into the garage Maya gathered everyone for a brief of the days work before dismissing them all for home.

She made her way back to the office to see if Carina had waited for her, although she wasn't expecting her too. Unaware that Andy followed behind.

"Hey Maya, how you feeling?" Maya jumped as Andy spoke.

"Jesus Herrera you scared me. I'm fine though, thanks for..you know..earlier" Maya becoming quiet

"All good in the hood" Andy making Maya laugh with her silly comments, she missed that. She missed being able to tell her best friend everything, to laugh together, to get drunk together. She missed Andy.

"Also why was Dr Deluca here earlier?"

"Oh you know her?" Maya surprised that Andy knew the doctor

"Only met in the hospital a few times. You know what she does right?" A smirk grew on Andy's face.

"No what?"

"She's the orgasm doctor" Andy unable to hide her growing smile at Maya's reaction

"She's the orgasm doctor? Carina. Carina is the orgasm doctor...WHAT" Once the information sat in her brain for a few seconds it made sense considering how good Carina was with Maya.

The two talked for a few more minutes before Andy headed out to meet up with Vic and Travis.

Carina awoke to two voices speaking in the room next to her, picking up her phone from the floor, eyes groggy. 6 O'CLOCK. She'd fell asleep in Maya's bunk. Panic set over her. 10 missed calls and 6 texts from Arizona. Fuck she thought.

Just as she was trying to type out an excuse to her girlfriend the door to the bunk opened, Maya peeping her head round the corner to see if Carina had stayed. And there she was, lying perfectly like a model although it was clear she'd just woken up.

"Hey I didn't think you would have stayed" All of a sudden Maya had a wave of nerves hit her because Carina waited. She stayed. No one had ever stayed for her before.

As soon as Maya walked into the room and sat next to Carina on the bunk all her panic disappeared because everything she wanted was in front of her. She had never experienced these sort of feelings before. So intense and fast paced. She barley knew the woman. But she wanted her.

Carina rolled over onto her side, putting her phone down and giving all her attention to Maya. Arizona could wait.

"Hi" Carina's smile so big it hurt her cheeks

"Hi"

The two stared at each other for a minute, sitting in silence. Admiring one another.

"Leave her" Maya said without any context though Carina knew exactly what she meant

"Its not that easy" Carina's face dropping a bit

"Why not. Just leave her" Maya taking Carina's hand in hers, a desperate look in her eyes

"Because..." Carina paused. The energy in the room had changed. She was about to tell Maya something no one knew. Not even her brother.

"Tell me" Maya squeezed the Italians hand.

"We're married"

Maya's face dropped. Along with her grip on Carina's hand.

"Your kidding me right?" A sense of disbelief coming from Maya. She stood up ad started pacing the room.

"No I'm not kidding. Maya sit" She patted the bed. "Let me explain, its not what you think"

"What do you mean It's not what I think? YOUR FUCKING MARRIED CARINA" all the doubts that this would ever work out between the pair running through her mind.

"PLEASE Maya. Sit" The doctor now sat up, reaching out for Maya.

Maya walked over to the bunk, hesitating before sitting next to her lover. Her married lover.

Carina wrapped her arm around Maya pulling her in so that her mouth was at the blondes ear.

"I promise it's not what you think"

Maya shut her eyes at the closeness of the two before pulling away to hear Carina's explanation.

"When I first moved to the states, there was an issue with my visa. At the time my brother was having a mental health crisis and needed me here to look after him. My original plan was to transfer from the hospital I was at in Italy to one in New York, as there was a really good program there for Andrea to go through. Two weeks before I was meant to fly out, he took a turn for the worst, nearly losing his job."

A tear formed in Carina's eye. Maya noticing and moving closer to her.

"Your okay, take your time darling" Maya smiled, a caring look in her eyes

Carina composed herself and continued, "His best friend phoned me, informing me of what happened. I immediatly panicked and flew over on the first flight I could get. But because I'd done that I ended up missing my interview for the hospital in New York, putting all my visa stuff in the bin and I had no back up plan. Arizona, Andrea's best friend and roommate suggested that I apply for Grey Sloan which I hesitated on because of the incident with Andrea. I stayed with them for 3 weeks before realising I would have to leave him and go back to Italy. I couldn't do that. Maya I couldn't." A sniffle came from Carina as she began to cry again.

"Hey hey hey come here" Maya held her arms out to hug the brunette.

They hugged and stayed that way for the rest of Carina's explanation.

"Arizona suggested the only quick fix to the situation. That we get married. However I told her if we did she hadn't to tell my brother because I didn't want to take the attention away from him, he didn't need to worry about me getting deported. So we did. We got married. Before there was even anything romantic going on. That didn't happen until a few months later once everything had settled down. But as time went on the relationship never developed any further. It was more a comfort thing than anything. She was the only one that knew the full story, you know" Carina tilted her head up from Maya's chest to look her in the eyes.

"Yeah" Maya looked back at Carina

"I want to be with you bambina, I do. But you need to understand how complicated this whole thing is for me"

Maya was still trying to process everything when she realised a bit of the story was missing.

"Wait but surely you can get the right visa now because you work at Grey Sloan?"

"Yeh I could, it would take time though. These things don't just happen overnight."

"But you could" Maya sounded hopeful

"Just hold me for a minute" Carina cuddled into Maya more, squeezing her eyes shut. She didn't want to talk about it anymore

Maya went to speak again but when she felt Carina relax into her she stopped herself. She knew what the right thing to do was. But this wasn't a black and white situation, so would it really be the right thing? She did not want Carina going back to Arizona. Maya wanted all of her. But did she want her this way? Full of secrets and lies.

Was she willing to go against all her morals based on a few hookups...
