My eyes we're shot open. I could feel my entire body quivering due to being drenched in my own cold sweat. My heart is beating fast.
I then sat up and started looking around the pitched dark room. It was too dark to see anything except for the hint of moonlight shining through the windows and onto my bed sheets. All I could hear was the eerie silence of the night.
I started to calm down a bit recalling what I dreamt was nothing more than a nightmare. Granted this nightmare had been haunting me for days unend but it was nothing more than REM sleep... Right?
Well the truth was it really wasn't a nightmare, it was just my mind recalling some memories that impacted me when I was younger. Till now I can still hear their words of disparaging me in my mind. They were the victims and I was the perpetrator. They even had evidence to back up their claims so I lied in an attempt to defend myself but I understood better than anyone that I was in the wrong. I shake my head to snap out of my train of thoughts and decided to focus on the present.
I turn to my side and reach for my phone in order to check the time. It's around 5.45 a.m.
My mind wouldn't let me go back to sleep due to the nightmare lingering somewhere in my mind and I'm not mentally prepared to be thrown back in if it occurred once again.
So for better or for worse, I figured I would walk around the city during this unfathomable hour.
I hop out of bed to put on something comfortable. Once stepping outside, it felt so refreshing being able to inhale this fresh cold air, while walking down these quiet streets. The occasional car passing by high-rise, and low-rise buildings alike. It's frankly kind of calming.
The silence is a bit unnerving since at any passing moment, I could easily get robbed and nobody will notice. But it also brought a bit of excitement considering it feels like I'm the only person that lives on this planet. Granted, this isn't my first time walking at this time of day but I've never walked this far away from my apartment.
Throughout this walk, I see a familiar looking illuminating sign that manages to give off a sense of nostalgia. It's none other than a 11 seven.
Entering it, I walk around to explore a bit of what they have to offer. I later spot a plushie that reminds me a bit of the character that's in a story I read. I pick it up and look at its tag. It says 'Cool Nature Man C' and there's a pull string on its back so I pull the string making the plush say "I like nature."
I place it back since it's most likely a rip off from a popular story. I then beeline my way to the end of the store which the drink section is located at. I explore the options and I couldn't decide between a Dr. Oopsie or a Tokina Soda. In the end, I decide against getting any of the two drinks since I forgot to bring some cash along with me.
While exiting, I look at my phone to check the time and turns out I've been walking for almost 3 hours. I guess I spent too much time walking to notice the sun starting to rise.
I guess it's time to head back. Hence I begin to walk back towards my apartment. During which, when I was about to cut the corner, I suddenly spot a guy running with a knife.
In this very moment, my body reacts by running towards the possible robber and I kick him square in the face. The impact made me lose all my momentum and I fell onto the guys body. It could've been instinct. I'm not that heroic enough to do something like this, although it did feel as if there was a feeling in my gut, commanding me to stop this guy.
The fall was painful as hell since colliding with the guy happened to make a cut on my hand and probably a sprained leg.
Well no use mulling over my injuries, I head into the store to request for a rope. After getting a hold of one, I drag the guy's body from the sliding door and tie him up.
I look around for the victim to make sure they were unharmed and when I found the victim, it turns out to be a woman. I then ask her to call the police while I have the failure of a human tied up under me.
During the waiting period for the police to arrive, the woman approached me and ask "Hey what's your name?"
I didn't know why but for some reason this one question made me think that maybe there's still some hope left for me. A small smile appears on my face and I respond with "My name is (y/n) (y/l/n) but you can call me (y/n). Nice to meet you."
