Chapter ten

"Hay!"

A familiar voice, brother waking me for breakfast the scent of mothers bread in the fire. When I opened my eyes I did not see our log cabins wooden roof instead a dew covered tree and an eagle that was awake and looking at the ground. Sivmit!? I was staring down at my brother, the younger of the two. His auburn hair and freckles so similar to mine. I'd fallen asleep with the helmet on- thank the gods. My mother had never shown my brothers this helmet, thankfully. "What are you doing up there." He said as I climbed down from the perch. Naia remained where she was, yawning and lowering her head. "Sleeping." I replyed. My brother raised his eyebrow and looked at me. "Right, sure. You really shouldn't sleep with them- they b-" I pushed past him. No time to be nice, had to make sure everyone hated me. So they would leave me alone. "I know."

I heard his footsteps following me. "Wait, who are you? Are you a rider from another village." I nodded gruffly but continued to walk away from him. "Whats your name!" he demanded. "Iviaan Rath." I said. I heard him stop but I continued walking. Don't look back, don't look back. I told myself. I hit something and tripped backward sprawling out on my bum in the mud- "What the he-" I began looking up the chest of a massive creature. A... Horse? No! It had antlers. A moose. What.

I stared in confusion as the moose circled around me sniffing loudly and rubbing its antlers on my armor. "Ow, ok." I grumbled, trying to push it off me. "Stop." I grumbled at the creature, who clearly seemed to enjoy tormenting me. "'Stop it." I hissed pushing the creature with both hands managing to get it away from me but it just came right back and nibbled at the silver material flowing out of the top of my helmet. "Damnit I swear to you I'll shoot an arrow in your nose if you don't let me go." The creature almost smiled at me as It pulled my helmet right off and took off with it. "Hay!" I screeched. Skidding threw the morning mud after the mount that had taking off across the clearing. It stopped behind three blonde elves.

The prince, the king and the princess. I stared at them and they stared back. The moose nuzzled the prince and dropped the helmet at his feet. He frowned at me and kicked it away. I blinked as we all stared at each other in silence. Finally the princess broke the awkward nothingness. "Ser rath!" She said with a smile. "I'm sorry for my brothers mount, he is a fool." She picked up the helmet out of the mud and rubbed it clear walking closer to me. "This is a lovely thing, where did you get it?" She asked. I blinked. "Uh, thanks." She smiled. "Your welcome."

I took it and raced off as quickly as I could. Oh thank the gods- I really needed to be more careful with this. I sat down in a patch of grass behind some of the tents to clean the mud off the metal. Slowly I took the thing between my fingers and looked at it, staring at the beautiful material. My mothers helm, she had worked closely with the king before this- woman had some high political places but not aloud to fight. In greenwood anyway, other elven kingdoms where different. I hugged the metal closer as footsteps approaching caught my attention. I glanced up to see the princess, dressed in white and smiling. She was truly beautiful. To bad I wasn't into girls- I mean. I was a girl, I liked guys. Anyway.

She opened her mouth to speak but closed it quickly. "I'm sorry, again for my brother. Hes a fool... hes always trying to prove to himself that he can be what my father whats him to be- but father never points out the good things Thranduil does, only the bad." She murmured quietly I felt a silent new empathy for the prince. The same reason I wanted to be in the war. I wished to prove to myself and my brothers that I was better then they thought that I could fight to... that I wouldn't always be second best. "I suppose I've misjudged him then." I muttered. "I really shouldn't be such an ass." I offered her a half smile. She nodded. "I like it when you smile." I saw a glint in her eyes that scared the living hell out of me. The young princess had a crush on me... this, wouldn't end well.
