Chapter three
I snorted myself awake, I always did. My dreams often just darkness and nothing more. The sunlight pushed itself threw my window the dirty curtains doing nothing to stop the blinding light. It reflected right into my bed and onto my eyes. We all shared a room, well. My brothers and I. As expected they where gone when my eyes fully opened. Out training with there Eagles no doubt. I pushed myself off the bed slowly and rubbed my auburn hair out of my eyes. I changed into my armored clothing and wandered into the kitchen casting a glance outside It was mid spring but that didn't mean the mountain was warm. Frost still coated the ground every day. Except perhaps in the late days of summer. I removed my bow from our weapon rack next to the door. Instead of a coat rack we had a weapon rack, classy. I pushed open the door and a cold breeze greeted me biting my face.
I trekked down the side of the hill and towards the village pulling my furry hood over my face. Children raced around on the cobblestone roads and played with toys. People milled around minding there business and doing their jobs. I wandered out into the thick pine forests beyond the town and loaded an arrow into bowstring and pulled it back slightly prepared to shoot whatever ran at me first. A deer moved into my vision and I slunk downward crawling quietly towards it keeping as close as I could to the ground. I pulled the arrow back farther and released it. It found its mark and cut into the deer the creature slumped sideways and I jumped forward. Grabbing the dead creature and pulling it over my shoulder hauling it back to the village. I found my mother washing clothes by the fireplace and threw the beast into the meat closet we kept outside the house.
She smiled great fully at me. I eyed the skies above and I could see my brothers. They worked hard to train there birds, and for their birds to train them. I peered up at them jealousy burning into my throat and veins. Crawling down into my fingers and my toes. Irivan seemed to be coming down. His eagle was larger then the others for he was the oldest and the largest bird took the most interest in him. He landed next to me and smirked. "Still waiting on the choosing, Eh sister?" he asked me with a sneer in his voice. "Ass.." I snarled under my breath and his eagle hissed at me quietly. "There there." He said to the bird steering it away from me as Sivmit dove down next to me. He was younger and nicer to me. "Don't worry sis, you'll get your choosing soon!" he assured me. So happy go lucky he was, moving his auburn hair out of his freckled face and green eyes he offered me a warming smile. "Thanks." I muttered quietly.
The boy moved towards the stables, his eagle smaller then our older brothers. A female, with white tipped wings and blue eyes. Unusual but beautiful. The eagles usually nested in the mountain caves but goblins and other unsavory creatures had started infesting there hold and they had to move. So the eagle lords came to remain with us, the little village with nothing to offer. Riders, however. Could be useful. The eagles where not stupid, but having an extra sword on board would be useful. I wandered towards the stables and scanned over the groups of birds and the humans, elves and dwarves alike gathered around. I stopped infront of one of the eagles that had been looking at me with a great amount of interest. She had black markings curling around her face and across her feathers. The creature moved towards me and ruffled her wings. "Hello..." I whispered. Suddenly someone touched my shoulder.
I spun, to see a young man with brown hair and blue eyes. A smile on his well chiseled jaw. "Was she bothering you?" He asked me moving around me towards the bird who greeted him. "No, not at all." I said. He smiled at me, a smile that reminded me of roses. "I'm Fehanaro." He said. "I don't believe we have met." I studied him, he was no elf. Human riders where un common, but heard of. I smiled at him. "Isfrel." I said curtly and started to walk away but I heard him trail me. "Wait, hold on. I don't belive I had seen you before." He said. "Do you live here?" I shook my head. "Up on the hill, yeah." I said as he fell into step beside me. "Huh, well." He said. "I've lived here since I was a boy." I narrowed my eyes, I did not ask him for his life story. "Well anyway, nice meeting you." He broke away from me and turned back towards his stable.
