Chapter nineteen

My eyes opened slowly, gazing into the face of something blurry. It was quite warm and I felt protected like I was wrapped in blankets. I sighed, wanting to go back to sleep. I was so warm and comfy. I wanted to stay right where I was, but before I could complain I was yanked out of the warmth and onto my feet. My eyes cleared and I stared into the face of my eldest brother. His scowl was so deep in his face I could have sworn he had grown wrinkles. "Hay." I said. He gritted his teeth, I could almost see the steam coming out of his ears. "Lle lakwenien?! Utinu en lokirim!" He yelled. I recognized 'Are you kidding me!?' 'You snake son!' He was calling me an idiot. I grumbled "Whatever, I wanted to prove myself to you and mom. I was sick of being the one left behind. I can fight for myself." Ivians rage increased. "Your. Iviaan Rath! The idiot who stabbed the prince threw the middle, got exiled to be fed to the orcs then returned to save the day but he was to late, everyone's dead now. Congratulations you fucking idiot."

I winced at his angry words. I knew he was angry, but really? That was just plain hurtful. "was mom even sick, or where you to cowardly to stay and fight." He yelled. I pushed him back, shoving past him and scowling. "I wanted to save you, the king wouldn't listen to me when I warned him of the attack! He refused to hear me." I yelled. "So yeah. I gave up- because I was scared! I was scared for all of us. I saved you and Sivmit and got us out of there because I wasn't going to see you dead!" I snarled. He looked down slightly. "Now, I'm going back to get Naia and see whats happened." I glanced at the sky and could see it was still early morning.

I raced forward snatching my brothers bow and arrow from his bag. I raced threw the trees, god knows how far he took me from the palace but if I kept running hopefully I'd find it. I raced threw the trees and noticed they where getting denser and denser. I felt my stomach rising in nervousness slightly. I scaled one of the trees and could spot the tip of the palace. It was quite a distance. I decided it would be quicker to travel threw the trees rather then on the ground. I leapt from branch to branch making better time then I would have on the ground. It took me about fifteen minutes to reach the palace and I saw that the war was coming to a close. Their where a few soldiers left and a few orcs. Bodies littered the ground and random fires had started. I shot an arrow from the tree I was perched on into a few orcs stomachs. I jumped down pulling my helmet down over my face. Racing into the battle field, I needed to find Sivmit. I looked around, racing threw the blood- fire and smog. Cutting the necks of a few orcs to, I kicked a body away from me when I burst threw the smog and saw the palace doors. "Sivmit!" I yelled into the fog. I heard a muffled yell from my right and ran towards it.

I searched everywhere, shouting my brothers name over and over again but there was no sound. I needed a better vantage point. I turned towards the palace and began to scale it, the same way I had when I was racing the prince. I reached the top in no time, to my surprise two shapes sat on the marble and bark. The king and the princess. The princess glanced over at me, surprise in her wide blue eyes. She stood and ran to me when I got up. "Your alive!" She cried. I patted the girls head awkwardly. "Ha- yeah." I glanced over at the king as his daughter clung to me. He was sitting on the wood and stone looking out into the horizon. Covered in blood and battlescars. He looked, sad. He didn't seem angry at all- to my surprise- "My lord, you should really be in a safer place." I offered. He shook his head. "No. I must wait here for my sons return. He said he would be back with weapons for us, but he never returned." I winced. He might be dead. I thought, but I dared not say that with his little sister and father in front of me. "I'll go look for him, find shelter. The orcs will smell you if your not careful."

As I scaled down the wall I looked over the battlefield. Bodies littered the courtyard and village, fires ate threw the trees and homes. Villagers screaming trying to get away from the chaos. I couldn't see Sivmit though. I reached the bottom and began to search for the princes body as the last enemy fell. It was over, but we had lost almost everyone. I looked around as the fog cleared. The aftermath of a war was never pretty. I looked around and I saw- Naia! I raced over to her, she was laying on her side barely breathing. She had a spear in her right wing. She let out a happy squawk when she saw me and tried to get up but was unable to. I knelt next to her and ran my hand threw her feathers. "Its ok. I'm here, your fine. I know- I need to be more careful. No more almost dying. I promise." I laughed softly kissing her soft face. She made a angry coo noise and tried to move her damaged wing.

I went to it and pulled the spear from her tendon. She cried out but was greatful for the freedom. Now she was able to stand, she moved her wing and I saw the prince. Laying on his side, hands outstretched. Covered in blood and his eyes closed. I gasped and went to him, touching his head and putting my ear next to his mouth. He was alive, barely. I looked at Naia. "You protected him?" I asked her she cooed and touched the princes limp face with her beak. Nuzzling him softly. I was very surprised by her change in heart! What happened in the hours I was out. I picked up the prince and put him over my shoulder, he weighed almost nothing. Like a girl. I let out a quite snort at my own joke.

Naia hopped next to me as we searched threw the battlefield. Still no sign of Sivmit. The remaining forces where beaten and bloody, sitting while healers rushed to there sides cleaning wounds and covering heads with bandages. I rubbed my head as I felt the prince sift. I placed him onto Naia in a sitting position and leaned his head against the eagles neck.

I searched for a good twenty minutes but there was no sign of him. Perhaps he had fled. I would look more later, the princes wounds needed attention. I had Naia lay down in a big patch of grass and I moved the prince so that he would lean against her, without thinking I removed his armor. His bare chest glittered in blood, he was covered in cuts and bites. I winced as I cleaned it off with water. Thank god he was out cold, otherwise he would defently be complaining. I was starting to get sweaty in my helmet so I took it off as I finished patching up his wounds with bandages made of soft leaves. He grumbled as I splashed water onto his face, waking him from his bloody slumber. "Get up." I said, crossing my legs and glaring at him. My hair falling in soft auburn ringlets around my round face.

He opened his eyes and his glare faded. He went to move, but winced when he tried. "You where badly damaged, my lord." I grumbled. "Your welcome." He was still staring at me. "Your supposed to be dead." I sighed and rolled my eyes, that's the thanks I get- of course. "No. I was seriously injured but my brother patched me up." Oh right! Ivian, I wondered where he went. The prince blinked slowly, processing what I had said. "Where is my father and sister." He asked. "On top of the palace, just fine." He nodded slowly. "You know..." I said quietly. "Naia protected you. She really likes you." He turned his head to look at the big bird who cooed softly and nuzzled his face. I smiled and laughed softly, Thranduils head snapped towards me.

"You're a woman!"
