Chapter Seventeen

I stood, as time began to slow. I yelled for Naia, then looked at my brothers. Shouting over the wind. "Go home, the war is coming and I cant see you dead." Then I leapt, before thinking I was plummeting towards the ground. The surprised screams above me echoing into my ears. I felt soft feathers stop my fall and I was flying again. Naia pumped her wings taking off. I reached for her pack. Removing the armor and glancing back at my brothers. They stared as Fehnaro said something. Ivian let out an angry yell and turned towards me. I guided Naia downward, threw the trees. I knew he couldn't follow me here, Naia was much smaller and could easily weave in and out of branches. "We have to warn them, I can't be always running from my problems." I said to her as I shoved the helmet onto my face. I'd need to find some weapons but I couldn't worry about that right now. Naia sped up as she heard the angry shriek of Ivians eagle above us.

I just hoped I would make it in time, at this rate it would take maybe an hour. I listened for Ivians shouting, it was starting to fade. As I ripped the dress I was wearing putting on the rest of the armor. As Naia flew out of the forest and down a cliff diving towards a river below us then pulling upward again. I could see Ivian and Sivmit in the distance. I couldn't hear them anymore. Naia dived into the forest again careful to not hit her wings on the branches or trees.

It took some time but eventually we arrived. I decided to not be sneaky about this, I didn't have time. Any second the orcs would burst from the ground. By this time all the warriors where asleep and the guards where nodding off. Naia let out a loud and angry screech. If woke some of them up, but not all. She did it again and again until they all where awake. The palace doors burst open and the king emerged, he saw me and his eyes began to burn. "You-"

But before he could say anything I shouted into the crowd. "There is an Orc army marching here at this very second! If you do not prepare this second you will all be killed! I have seen them first hand." I yelled into the crowd. "They will kill you all and take the palace. Please, you have to listen to me!" Suddenly the ground began to shake and I looked back towards the palace, The prince- king and princess suddenly stood onfront of a giant worm. It shrieked and Orcs began to climb from the whole it had made in front of the palace. I held my hand out to the princess and prince but I was only able to grab one, the prince grabbed my first and I tugged him onto my eagle, as I turned to grab the princess an orc popped up behind her and dragged her backwards along with the king. The warriors where being attacked, they where without weapons. If only Id gotten here a bit sooner! I yelled at myself as Naia flew out of the chaos. Naia shrieked at me and gestured her head towards a fallen orc. A shiney bow and quiver sat on his body. She dived and I grabbed it loading an arrow and quickly firing on the Orcs trailing us. I hadn't even noticed that Thranduils hands where around my middle. No one was where armor accept for me, God damnit. This would be the end for this army if we didn't get our shit together.

Naia stopped at a massive tree just outside of the battle field. I helped the prince down as he stared at me, dumbfounded for a second but then fear and anger replaced the confusion. "They got my sister and father!" he cried. Shaking my shoulders. "Let me down, I have to save them." I pushed him back slightly. "No, they are already dead if the Orcs got them. They wanted to destroy the royal family so, if you stay safe you are doing your family a service." I barked. Thranduil scowled at me. "Shut the hell up, you don't know me. Amin delotha lle" he spat elvish at me. Thankfully I didn't understand it, so I couldn't beat his face in. "Who even are you!" Thranduil roared. He went to push me back and I grabbed his hands. "Stop it, its better if you stay here. I'll get your sister and father alright." I growled. He scowled, but his eyes lightened slightly. I could tell he was pleased by the offering. "Now shut up and stay here."

I jumped onto Naia and we took off across the battlefield. We where still loosing ground but the Orc bodies had doubled in the time I was gone. Something was going right. The eagle riders had taken action, they where using there mounts to attack from above and toss the enemy into the air letting them plummet to the ground. I could see Llevelen and Oropher in the distance, being pushed into a silver cage. The father and Daughter looked distraught as Naia and I flew towards them I shot an arrow at the cage, but before it could reach the lock an Orc jumped for it, the arrow went straight threw his head. Missing the lock. I scowled and landed Naia near the cage, stabbing the orcs that came near me with an arrow. I went to reach for the cage when the sounds of trumpets and drums caught my attention. I turned, seeing a huge orc with some sort of horn. He laughed and pointed at me, saying something then blowing into the horn. I felt cold run up my spin as the sound entered my ears, but he did not do anything besides make my shiver. I turned to open the cage again, but as I went to open the lock I was ripped back by a strong force and flung into the air. I yelped as my back hit a tree. I looked up to see Naia stalking towards me, her eyes dull and black an Orc on her back.

I let out a scream of terror and surprise as she wrapped her beak around my middle, tossing me into the air and cutting open my stomach with her razor sharp beak. Blood poured onto the grass as the princess let out a cry. "Naia, why!" I cried, gripping my stomach and broken armor. The orcs laughed that had gathered around. I noticed that all the other Eagles had landed. That horn, it must have done something to them. They where attacking their masters now. Naias eyes glowed with hatred as she stalked towards me the Orcs laughing loudly. Naia clacked her beak, opening it to close it over my head. I closed my eyes, I couldn't breath. I couldn't move. I couldn't do anything, flashes of my childhood appeared in my mind. Set in golden light, fields filled with daisies, my fathers laugh and my brothers eating ice from the mountains covered in maple syrup... there was the sound of pain then I no longer felt the hot breath on my head. I looked up to see the prince, holding a sword. He was still dressed in his white underclothing but he had found some armor pieces. Naia had a cage over her head and Thranduil had broken the lock so the Orcs could not get it off. She shrieked in pain and annoyance shaking to get rid of the Orc rider and the cage- but her eyes where still black and focused on me.

I looked up at the prince who offered me his hand. "Can you stand?" he asked. I nodded. "I'm fine." Although I really wasn't. I was still bleeding from the massive gash and I felt weak and lightheaded. I just wanted to lay down. The prince opened the cage that held his sister and father. As I looked into the battlefield. It had started to rain, I watched the droplets hit the Orcs helmets and ricochet into the night sky. I looked down at my stomach, watching blood drip from my hands. I felt overwhelming anger at the Eagle in front of me, even though I knew it wasn't her fault I still landed a punch on the cage, rattling her head. She screamed at me. Lashing out with her wings and talons as a rope went over her top. Securing her to the ground.

I felt strange, everything was slow and I could hear my heart in my ears. I pulled an arrow from my quiver and shot it at the big orc that was still blowing the horn. It entered his middle and exploded out the other side. It coughed up some blood, but grinned at me then moved down the hill and grabbed me. Tossing me towards a tree, causing even more blood to explode from my wound and mouth. I pulled another arrow, this time it went straight threw his right arm. He still advanced, unphased. My final attempt was to aim the arrow at his eyes. The creature was laughing the whole time he removed his mace from his belt. I waited until he got close, I could barely hear the princess screaming for her brother to do something as it all faded. Back to my heartbeat.

I removed my fingers, the arrow flew from the bow. It stuck its target and went threw the Orcs eye. It did not pierce his brain-though. He screamed in agony as he backpedaled away from me. I looked out into the sea of fighting again, closing my eyes as more blood mixed with rain and poured down my lips. Then I slipped downward and let out a final breath before slipping away into a dark sleep.
