"You sure?" Sally asked, one of my friends.
"Yeah, I guess." I simply said.
"But, you seem cold to each other. You could tell us anything" Jenn added. I was about to say something when Amber came.
"Garri, we need to talk." she said, looking at me with her most intimidating expression, so far.
I just nod and stood up from my chair. The girls were about to follow, when I stopped, shook my head a no, and smiled.
"So, why are we here?" I asked. We're currently at the rooftop garden, where we often eat lunch at.
She suddenly took my arm, the one with the cut, and instinctly, I winced. She saw my reaction and hastily took her hand, which is currently with blood. She seems to be shaken at the blood in her hands, when I asked her again. "Why are we here?"
She took her eyes away from her hands and frowned at me.
"What are you doing to yourself?" she asked.
"Nothing much..." I answered quietly.
"Don't give me that rubbish, Margaret!" she yelled and grabbed my shoulders with the unbloody hand. I just stood there silently, everything that happened back then, coming back at me. "Say something! What do you think did I felt about this?" she asked, showing me her bloody hand.
"I'm your best friend, Garri!" she added.
"Don't over react."
"Don't over react? Don't over react?! Of course i'll react! It's a normal reaction, when all of a sudden, you found out that you're friend is cutting herself and jumping cliffs as a hobby!"
"It's not like that..."
"You're the one whose not acting normally on things, Garri."
"Yes, I am..."
"Look." she said as she stand at the edge of the rooftop.
"Amber... Stop."
"What do you feel?" she asked as she slowly lean her body at the edge as I call her name.
"What do you feel?! Do you think this kind of idea, fun? Tell me Margaret, does this appeal you? Seeing your friend doing something crazy enough, too crazy that it could take her life away?"
"S-stop... Please..." she leaned more, but my feet's cold and numb, I can't feel them, and I just collapsed. Sobbing softly. "Please don't do this.." I weakly said.
Slowly but surely, everything went dark, no light, but I know I'm awake. The weight on my body, its heat, and her voice, made me sure about it.
"Now you feel what I felt... That's unfair, Garri. I'm your friend, your best friend even. You have me. You could tell me anything. There's Jenn and Sally too... Please, you have me..." she softly said, as I could feel her rub my back.
I found my voice in the darkness, and gave her an answer.
"No, you were never with me..." I weakly said.
"What are you sayin--"
"You didn't even recognize me.."
"Garri..?" I shrug her away from me and sat in a fetal position.
"You didn't recognized me... You were my best friend... You even gave me a nickname..." there was a silence, then I heard her gasp. "Yeah... I'm Margie..."
--- six years ago ---
"So, she's new here, and I hope you could help, and be her friend." I smiled at my 43 years old adviser, and gave the new girl one of my sweetest smile.
