I woke up early the next day and I was surprised to see Rue was still in bed. She looked like a sweet innocent child, sleeping cozily while stuck in her dreamland. I went to the window and saw that the rain had just stopped, so I took a shower and got dressed. This time, I actually wore a pair of shorts, red long-sleeved shirt and my favorite maroon Converse. I placed some books in my bag just so I wouldn't have to carry them around anymore. I looked kinda girly today, which was actually one of the rare things that happen in my life but I'm okay about it. Mom said that the thing that matters most is that I'm comfortable with what I'm wearing. So I glanced at my clock and saw that it was just 6:30 A.M., I decided to have breakfast at the Hanging Garden and left a note on Rue's table telling her that I'd gone off to have my breakfast there.
The Hanging Garden - its walls are filled with crawling vines and flowers. There are food stalls available, some benches along the railings, and a few tables and chairs in the center. It looked like an earth-friendly version of our cafeteria. It was just a few meters away from my room and also, there's a shortcut intended for the boys' dormitory. It somehow serves as bridge between the two dormitories. I got there after a few minutes of walking. I bought some pancakes and hot coffee from a stall and sat by the pole decorated with vines and daisies. I seemed to be the only student up this early so everything was peaceful and calm until I heard someone speaking in a high tone.
"It seemed like you're not the Chase that I knew anymore. You've changed!"
'Chase? What's he doing here this early and with whom?' I started looking around and saw them, Chase and Jessica.
"What do you mean?" Chase said.
"You don't seem to be there for me Chase. All you do is tag along with that girl friend of yours!"
"Rue and I have been friends for a long time Jessica, you know that."
"Not her, the other one Chase, the newbie girl whom you're always spending time with." Jessica ranted.
"What? Stella? What's wrong with Stella?"
"You, her.. Everything Chase, every single damn thing!" Jessica shouted.
"There's nothing going on between us Jessica. Will you just please calm down?" Chase sighed.
"Calm down? I'll only calm down if you stopped hanging out with her. I don't like her Chase." Jessica said, annoyed.
"What do you want me to do? She's my friend, okay? I can't just bail on her like that."
"Oh, so now you're choosing her over me? What the hell Chase? You don't know her yet and she doesn't even know you that much. Pathetic!"
Chase didn't answer. I could feel the insides of my stomach twisting and turning. It feels like I'm going to explode or something. I really feel bad about this and felt worse because I'm hearing and witnessing it myself.
